INternet: How many windows do you have open and how are they opened? |
|
WIth so much to do on the internet and time being so valuable...having several things going at once while online is often a very common thing to do. So, if you have several things going, sometimes like emails, paid to sites, and things like that, how many windows do you usually have open at once? And do you have them open vertically or horizontally? Then, when subsequent pages open into another window on the screen, that creates yet another one and possibly not the same size.... So... how do you handle multiple windows so that you get the most of your time and everything taken care of and still do it organized so you dont get confused for having to much going at once?

1. Liasonfan (1120) | 5 months ago | Hey coffeebreak~! At any given time, I usually have no fewer than four windows open at a time. One for email, one for mylot, one for LG2 and one for whatever other internet site I am on at the time. They open horizontally along the bottom of my screen and I rarely get them confused. You know me and my obsession for GH, right? Between 3 and 4 pm, I also have my PVR running to watch and take screencaps of GH. My fotki (online picture storage site) and my transcript (closed captioning program) is running. Hubby gets upset that I have so much going on at once, and I admit, I may have to go invest some more memory for my 'puter as well, because sometimes I have to shutdown my email and mylot in this hour (oh no)!!! but this is a way of life for me now. I would go nuts if I could only do one thing at a time. Thanks so much for asking!

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | You know Liasonfan, you say it is a way of life for you...nothing wrong with that! I am on internet doing many things (wish some of them were finacially lucrative, but alais, they are not!) but I dont' do movies, or other things like that for fun and entertainment, seldom watch TV and the internet and what I do on there are my "life" and my entertainment and my outisde enjoyment as such. So, keep your life going! It is fun isn't it! I have the window icons in the side tool bar (most have that tool bar on the bottom, I prefer it on the left side) and they are all open there - is that what you mean? I was thinking of making at least 4 actually open and on the screen and just shrink the window, but still there visably and just jump from window to window as the time allows. Could be I am trying to make more out of something not necessary, but..that is me! This is where multi tasking was born! Most employers took it to make one salary to cover 3 jobs, but here on the internet, it is a way to keep it all going for sucess!

2. RLFinNash (5750) | 5 months ago | hello coffeebreak INternet: How many windows do you have open and how are they opened? lol i like how that you put, INternet: how many windows do you have open? lol so that everybody would know right off of the bat what you were talking about. lol but anways, when i am logged onto the internet no matter what that it is that i am doing, i just have one window opened at a time. i almost have a one track mind when i am on the internet. lol if i am Mylotting, then that is what i am doing only. if i am on Club Pogo's website playing an online game, then that is what that i am doing only. lol just like right now, i am Mylotting, so i do Mylot through my e-mail notifications that i receive from my friend's around here, so i have two windows opened right now. one being this discussion window that i am typing my response to your discussion in, and the other window is down on my tool bar which was the e-mail notification that i had to open to read your discussion. have a beautiful day today!

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | I thought about that and that is why I added "internet". I have most of my house windows open most of the time...in case you want to know! LOL! I have a thing about catchy titles, learned about that with trying to write and get on google ranks and such, but of course, it didn't work for me, but I still think that way! I want people to read what I have to say, so I dangle the "good part" in front of them to get their attention! Oh well.. anyway... I appreciate that I gave you a laugh!

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | I was thinking, vertically you can't read anything and have to scroll up and down. Horizonaly, you have to scroll back and forth - okay, I'm seeing cross-eyed now! So I was wondering how everyone else handled it! Horizonally seems better. I'll try it out. Did once, but got tired of scrolling, maybe now I will have a better handle on it!

4. drannhh (5229) | 5 months ago | I use horizontal tabs and usually have 8 to 15 tabs open at a time, sometimes more. I don't get confused unless one of them turns out to be bad and crashes the browser, which noscript usually prevents. Even then, FireFox browser usually brings everything back up intact unless I was in the middle of a myLot response when it happened and then the text will have gone south. I multi-task very well in text but can get distracted by sounds, so I compute with the volume control set to off 99% of the time.

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | 8-15 at a time? Okay, my hat is off to you! Best I have done is 4 windows at a time - 2 are the main page of a earn money site and the other 2 are the offers from each site. Timers on both. But 8-15? Good grief, how do you handle that! I have some extras open and minimized on the side tool bar and click as needed, but 8-15!!! Wow.....You have the multi-task crown!

drannhh (5229) | 5 months ago | Well those are tabs not windows, but I should have said that I also have 2 or 3 browser windows open at a time, too, with several additional tabs in each.

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | Any tips on how you keep them all organized so you go to where you want to go instead of just clicking till you find the window of the site you want?

drannhh (5229) | 5 months ago | I can only keep a few tabs open in IE but in FireFox it is pretty easy. First, although I try to open them sequentially, using the right mouse click option called "Open Link in New Tab" I do keep dragging and dropping the tabs to group them as needed. When there are more tabs open than fit horizontally across the page, I scroll horizontally using the "List all tabs" feature. Here is another finger saver: I use control/W to close the FireFox tabs instead of clicking with the mouse.

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | Okay, you add another question/option. How many browswer and why? FoxFire and IE - do you have them open same time doing things? I was only questioning about windows for web pages, Like mylot and email and a GPT site or something like that, but multiple browswers too? How do you handle that? I need to look into that to see how it could benefit me! Care to share!

drannhh (5229) | 5 months ago | Wahoo, another Opera user! I love Opera and that is one of the three or four internet browsers I tend to have open at a time, too. Why so many? Each one is better at some things. For instance, the only reason I ever use IE is that some pages will not work right with any other browser. I like to group different kinds of open tabs in different open windows and as some activities are better suite to one browser than another, it is just logical to me to have several open at a time.

6. Matthammer (172) | 5 months ago | I usually have around 4 tabs open in my browser. At work i have more but they are then spread across multiple monitors. I'm used to working with the web and i don't confuse that easily hehe, so its not a problem.

coffeebreak (2825) | 5 months ago | Tabs - what is that? I only know that as how Foxfire does the same thing - okay, well, first I back up - how many browswers such as Foxfire/IE do you have open? Then how many windows (IE) or Tabs (foxfire?) do you have open in each browser to other sites/web pages? I think I didn't with the right words! If youare used to it, that is great! I think I could get used to it but I am a hands on person, not a visual so it is a bit harder for me to organize it! But I can learn!

7. mrsfrodotata (1414) | 5 months ago | I generally have two windows open through explorer with 4 tabs open in each and all of them are for mylot and then I close a window and all the tabs but one when I am done and then I respond to all my mylot emails. LOL

| 8. chezfrugal (80) | 5 months ago | I have a tendency to have four windows open: one for onelook.com (a dictionary site), one for mylot, one for rss news feeds, and one for internet radio. I've gotten so used to multitasking that if I don't have these open, I just don't feel complete. Firefox's browser works great for tabbing.

9. kiran1978 (1227) | 5 months ago | Right now I have about 3 windows open. I usually have mylot, and my 3 ptc sites open also, so I can check out my stats regularly. Sometimes I also have the bux.to forum open aswell as I like to check out the success stories there. SOmetimes however though I have to close some of these windows down as it makes the site I am on, go slower and i don't have alot of patience waiting a long time for a page to appear.
