Spiders! Do you like them? Are you afraid of them? |
|
Me? I'm terrified of them. It's not a phobia, though. I was bitten years ago by a brown recluse and had an allergic reaction to it. I got blood poisoning. When I went to the hospital, I got a tetanus shot, and had an allergic reaction to that as well. I almost died. Luckily, there was a "spider specialist" in the hospital who was able to save my life.
So, I was seriously traumatized by this. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

1. danishcanadian (20187) | 2 years ago | Spiders don't worry me one little bit. If I know there are going to be dangerous ones around I keep my guard up, and be careful around them (same with snakes) but the regular non-threatening ones don't bother me a bit. I'm not scared of snakes either.

mentalward (4233) | 2 years ago | I wish I could be like you and not be so afraid of them. Snakes don't bother either. They're usually more afraid of you than you are of them.
Thanks for responding. Take care.

I had a friend that got bit by one & he lost his arm due to the bite.I hate spider's & snakes. Now my sister LOVES Black Widows, she will 'play' with them & they have never bit her, I tell her she's nut's to do this!!Lori

mentalward (4233) | 2 years ago | Yes, I sure was lucky! It took 3 weeks to recover, though. I think I was lucky, in a weird way, to have gotten blood poisoning from it because I had to go to the hospital immediately. The bite didn't have time to cause a major infection at the site before I was put on antibiotics.
By the way, your sister's nuts! LOL

3. laura1167 (122) | 2 years ago | I don't like anything that is creepy-crawly. If there is a spider that needs to be disposed of I get one of my kids to take care of it. They usually know because I'll be screaming. lol
I'm sorry to hear of your life threatening experience and I'm glad it turned out well in the end. What a lucky break having a spider specialist on duty, that's something else!
I really don't like snakes either. There was a snake crossing my road today and a car ran over it's hind section. It was still alive but I don't know how it could survive such an injury. I actually felt bad for it but I wasn't about to stop to help. lol

mentalward (4233) | 2 years ago | I know that feeling of feeling bad for something but not daring to try to help it. I ran over a squirrel's foot once, at least I think it was it's foot. It was kinda running in circles in my rear-view mirror. But it was rush hour with a lot of traffic so I didn't think twice about stopping.
The next day, though, I was looking for something grey, red and flat on the road and didn't see it. That made me feel better.
Thanks! Take care.

mentalward (4233) | 2 years ago | Worms? Wow! I love them. Well, I like to go fishing and I also do a lot of gardening, so worms are my friends. They're harmless (most are, anyway) and aren't at all slimy... they just feel that way because they wiggle so much.
Thanks for your comment. Take care!

8. highflyingxangel (8932) | 2 years ago | I don't like them and I'm a bit afraid of them. The bigger and the fuzzier they are the more menacing they seem to me. I haven't had any bad encounters with them or anything, I just know I reached a certain point where spiders were suddenly pretty evil to me and I was really afraid of them. I'm not really sure what brought it on, but it's not like I really freak out. I can remove myself from the situation if need be without causing a big scene.

mentalward (4233) | 2 years ago | Not me! LOL I don't know where you live, but you've probably heard me off in the distance occasionally, whenever I saw a really big spider. I would love to be able to act more, umm... "mature" about them, but I can't.
Thanks for the comment. Take care.

9. martindale (115) | 2 years ago | I to have dealt with spiders, but not so dangerous or serious. I have been bitten a couple of times but only a little swelling and pain--no doctor visit. My daughter was like a spider magnet when she was about 2 and although we went to the doctor, there were never any major problems. Even now, we let spiders live because they kill mesquitos, which we really hate. Nobody in our house is afraid of them.

Thanks for responding. Take care.
