Today, I needed a quick meal, so I threw together the usual tuna fish sandwich ingredients. You know the usual stuff like tuna, onions, pickle relish, mayo, mustard. And, then I thought, wouldn't it be neat if tuna fish tasted more spicy?
I love spicy foods, so I tried a teaspoon of Pico De Gallo in the tuna fish mixture. It's sort of like salsa, with jalepenos. It was amazing. It was tasty and tangy and hit the spot. Plus, I added just a bit of Louisiana Hot sauce, because in my opinion food can never be too hot.
Wanted to pass that tip along. Who knew that tomatos and tuna tasted good together. What's the oddest or tastiest ingredient that you've ever added to your tuna fish sandwich mix? Please share.

I have added apples, pecans, and dried fruit to it along with mayo and honey mustard instead of pickle relish. It has less sodium this way, and is still sweet and tangy. It was really a hit with the whole family. It is also nice to add feta cheese to it as well. This adds both flavor and calcium.

Tuna is sooo healthy...loaded with omega 3's..it is one of my all time favorites and a quick put together for lunch, I have experimented quite a bit with tuna. I like raisens or raisen bran mixed in with it, it gives it a slight sweetness, capers are good and no matter what I choose to mix in with it, a cold chopped up hard boiled egg is a given, I mix these ingredients in with tuna at different times, not all mixed in together. I have never tried adding in anything hot nad you might not believe this but I made tuna salad today for lunch and was going to add something hot, decieded not to now the next time I make it I most definitly will add a hot spice to it, I'll let ya know how it comes out, that would be something different, I think I would like it. :)

That is awesome! It's so funny how many things we all do in a days time that other people are doing. Definitely try the Lousiana hot sauce. It rocks! Thanks for the ideas on the egg and raisins. I'll be sure to try those.

That sounds yummy, BQ. I'm sure I would have loved your sandwich.
The strangest thing I have tried in my tuna mix is parmigan cheese and I didn't like it. I like my tuna sandwiches on toasted bread and I like either cucumber slices or avacodo slices (one or the other).

Lol. I'm sure you burned off that pound in labor and delivery.
Thanks for the best response, beauty.

Oh, that sounds delighful! When I was almost nine months pregnant I made a toasted tuna cheese sandwich with lots of butter. It was so yummy. I am sure that I gained a pound from eating that sandwich. But, I felt so good. I guess I shouldn't have eaten tuna being pregnant. Looking back on it now. But, i had just a short time away from delivery and it was the only thing in the house that I was craving. Hmm!

Thank you so much for the tip. I usually just make a regular concoction of tuna, mayo, and relish and pow good to go but lately Ive been using a little bit of banana peppers as well. I do have to say that a little pico de gallo sounds great in the sandwich and cant wait for lunch tomarrow to try it out.

Given a choice I have always added finely chopped tomatos and celery, and chopped hard boiled egg. I am hungry now.

I'm glad you liked it. I don't think I would care for spicy tuna sandwiches! I haven't ever added anything unusual to tuna salad so I guess I like it boring!! Haha.

I'm not very adventurous when it comes to tuna! I do really like lemon pepper tuna, but all I add to it is sour cream (instead of mayo) and chopped up dill pickles. I think I am way too picky to try most of the suggestions people had for ways to eat it.

HI beautyqueen26, tuna is such a tasty fish plus healthy too. my hubby loves it like anything and he love to eat it with Pice De Gallo and Jalepenos. when he was in Mexico he learnt soooooo many varieties of dishes and he love to cook himself. that is such a help and a relief to me that i can invite anyone , anytime b'coz he helps me fully and if the menu is full non veg then he is on the FRONT . he is so good in cooking non-veg items.
this sandwich will be made tommorrow in the breakfast hundred percent by him.
thanks for sharing.

I am not that big on tuna myself, I prefer pink salmon, but, my husband is a tuna sandwich lover! When I am in a good mood and he is a lucky man, and we have tuna in the cupboard I make him a mean sandwich. On one slice of bread I spread whole egg mayonaise and sprinkle with pepper, then press on the tuna and some sliced tomatoes and lettuce. On the other slice of bread I spread tomato paste and some fiery hot chilli sauce and sprinkle this with salt. When this lovely mix is squashed together apparently it is delightful.
I still prefer salmon though!

I didn't know that tuna fish sandwiches could even be good. I can't stand tuna. Other people seem to like it, but not me. It just makes me gag and feel very ill to my stomach. I'll leave all the tuna eating for you, my friend!

I sometimes squirt a little soy sauce onto my tuna
salad sandwich as it seems to perk up the usual combo
of things in a tuna salad sandwich. My tummy does not
do well with extra spicy so have to make other things'
work. I also love toput thin slices of cucumber into
my sandwich. delicious.

Once I've add cheese, it was quite funny taste, hehe. I don't have much experience in this case, but I understand your thinking. Until you are eating something extremly hot it's good to have spicy food. Cheers and happy myloting.
