do you still "do" those letter+envelope+stamp in this internet age? |
i just noticed that my handwritting has become unrecognizable even to myself-too ugly to be read..:P so i tried to write the way i used to. i also noticed that the pen is heavier or harder. this again reminded me about the time (in the past) when i used to write letters to pen pals all over the world. i wonder how many people are still writting letters/real letters to pen pals. some might think it's a little embarassing but i think it's still fun to do.

1. p1kef1sh (3120) | 5 months ago | I don't have any pen pals but I do still write letters and send cards. There is something altogether more personal about a letter. I love to send them and love even more to receive them. Of course E Mail is a huge advantage. But there is still room for the romance of the letter. I also use letters when writing to businesses. It seems to make them take more notice.

3. sudiptacallingu (3146) | 5 months ago | Hi pixie, No, the lazy and the miser both conspire to keep me away from the card shop and even if I turned my house upside down, I would not find a decent writing pad on which to write a few lines! And then who bothers to walk down to the post office anymore…not me certianly. The more than the internet itself, I think the worst indulgence comes from the online free greeting cards with all their myriad embellishments. Not only can you write your personal message on them, you can also decorate them as you like (which is impossible) in actual cards. Regarding letters too, I am an absolute netoholic… But yes, I do agree that there’s a certain romance and expectation when the postman delivers a letter to you, especially if you are already waiting for it.

singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | there you go. now, will you wait for a letter if i'm going to send you one?..:p (ha ha..kidding - my handwriting $ux - you'll never read anything i write)............:)

4. surveygrrl (781) | 5 months ago | My friend and I have special pens with lights on them. It looks like we are writing blanks notes to each other. I am waiting for her to write me back because I wrote the last time. My other friend lives far away. We do meet up but it is faster to get things to each other by mail. I also write to my Grandma a lot ad she writes back. She doesn't have a computer or anything so other than phone it is the only way that we communicate.

singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | yeah, grandma prefers that old fashion way and it's still fine (with me)... imagine you're writing letters to a future celebrity .. you'll never know what you're treasuring.:)

| |
| |
singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | yup me too. but nowadays i don't receive that many personal letters/cards as i used to get (before internet). it is meaningful and has its own attraction different from email. thanks angel.

6. book1962 (9827) | 5 months ago | hi singlepixel, I still write letters when I have the time to do so. Its not too often now as I am busily mylotting when I have some extra time and not sitting there and putting pen to paper. As I have a herniated disc which causes trouble right now I will be admitted to hospital in a few days and I plan to take the unanswered mail with me and to follow up on some so called snail mail then.
| |
| |
singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | hi there Reg. yes it is true that writing letters need more effort compared to email. no doubt, but reading those personal handwritings gives us more feeling than reading email. (but i guess people wont have any feeling when reading my handwriting coz it's hard to read...ha ha ha...) WISH YOU GOOD LUCK ON YOUR HOSPITAL VISIT. GET WELL SOON AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

7. Ruthep (3497) | 5 months ago | I don't write many letters but I do some. If I want to write my aunt I do because she doesn't have the internet. Every once in a while I pay bills by mail but lately I have started to use my credit union's free bill pay. I do mail out Christmas cards. I get email cards but I like mailing out the real ones. It just feels so Christmasy.

singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | lol...."cristmasy"- never heard but i like the word.(maybe i've been "away" too long) you're right- it feels 'warmer' reading those real cards than email cards. thanks Ruthep!

8. lieanat (594) | 5 months ago | For me, I don't find posting mails are embarrassing, but rather too troublesome. As I can get it done fast in emails. If that's a parcel, then it's different story then.
| |
| |
singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | that's the limit of email - no real parcel. but too troublesome to get that stamp. pro and cons for both. thanks lieanat.
| |
lieanat (594) | 5 months ago | I know about the limitation, so I seldom send parcel to friends. Hehe... have a nice day.

9. loujac3 (849) | 5 months ago | As easy as it is to use a word processor, I still have to write an occasional letter. For my elderly friends I use large print and the processor. For thank yous I still write them by hand and mail them. It would be wrong to send a thank you any other way after a job interview. Believe it or not, people like to see our handwritting and they make judgements on it. I journal and that is done by pen. I can look at different times in my journal and see just how my actual mood was by my handwritting.

singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | i agree with you 100%! it's more lively to feel the person by reading his/her handriting than by email. i can't really prove it but i just fell it that way.

10. nixxi76 (533) | 5 months ago | There's only certain times of the year where I will do the letter, envelope and stamp thing. When it's someone's birthday I will send out a letter with the card, but that's only on occasion now. Around Christmas time I always have and think I always will do it. I find it's more personal and I love receiving mail from friends and family as well. Just a pleasent surprise. Have a good day

singlepixel (639) | 5 months ago | that's right, it has its own value by being able to hold the letter -as if the real person was really there.:)
