We own a Kirby G6 but it needs to be fixed it is not sucking up anything, and two small sharks. We also have a carpet steamer and our Kirby has all the attachments to do everthing short of cleaning the house by itself so I really need to get it to the Kirby dealer and get it fixed. I miss using it cause it is the best vacuum ever. So what kind do you have? Do you have more than one?

I own a Kirby G5, last year I noticed it was loosing suction too. When I took the bag out to check it, I saw the the hose that the bag attaches to had tore close to the base. I took it all apart and fixed it myself. I had to have plastic ties but it works beautifully now. I could have had it repaired, but the cord alone cost me almost 60 dollars when I had it replaced. Besides, I can't be without my vacuum cleaner for more than acouple of days, I would go nuts. My mother-in-law and I bought our Kirbys at the same time, and sure enough, hers tore in the same place mine did (I fixed hers too). For a vacuum cleaner that is ten years old. I won't complain. It's a great cleaner. Of course if I ever replace it I'll try a Dyson. I do get tired of having to buy bags for it.

I have the Kirby G6 model and I am still working on figuring out what in the world is wrong with it. I have a friend who lives in MA whose husband owns a Kirby dealership so she has been emailing me things to check for. I am thinking maybe my hose just has a blockage it is my next thing to check. I love the kirby when it is working cause it is a powerhorse of a cleaner.

If you are the original owner of the Kirby, you can send it to a Kirby Dealer and have it completely refurbished for less than $200. If you owned it less than 3 years, they will fix it for free. Or there is the new model that came out in 2007 called the Kirby Sentria. This model has parts that are made from neoprene and the parts will last forever. (I sell Kirby vacuums door to door.)

Thanks. Our Kirby is 7 years old. Got a friend whose husband owns a kirby dealership and she has been giving me hints in emails that can help me pinpoint the problem. I know I will eventually need to take it in to the kirby place here and get her looked at but money being tight trying to find the problem on my own. I think the hose is clogged.

I use a Bissell Powerforce Bagless vacume cleaner at my house. I bought it at wal mart quit inexpensive and it works very well. I like it because you do not have to buy bags.I also have a carpet steam cleaner too, it is light weight and works real well. I do have an old electrolux vacume cleaner, but I never use it, The Bissell works much better and is much lighter and easier to use.

I don't have a vacuum cleaner at all. I have wood floors, and sweep instead. My last vacuums have been Dysons. They could actually lift pet hair of carpets successfully.

The one i have at the moment is a cylinder one ,and its fine..it picks up the dog hairs well..but in actual fact i would prefer the one i had before..not a cylinder but an upright..it was much easier to carry about..
