Ladies, do you like power-tools?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools 4 years ago

The older I get the better I like power-tools.

Right now I have my heart set on my own chainsaw, something big enough to get the job done yet small enough for me to handle.

I want a good vice to so when I need to I can clamp it down real good and sharpen the chain.

I have slowly taken over the few tools my husband has.

I don't know about a chainsaw, but I would love to have a power drill. They are so useful for things around the house. My sister got one for Christmas from my parents and I told my mom, next year it's my turn!

My daughter bought her dad a nice power drill years ago. I have an electric one too, nice for a back up.

My.... I posted this three years ago lol.

My husband gave me a cordless drill last year for Christmas and I bought myself a chainsaw a few months ago.

I work all the time so my daughter has been using the chainsaw.

My next thing is a toolbox, with a ten-pound chain and lock on it. I hate when they get my tools and leave them laying around. That's why they have to use mine, because they don't put their own away when they get done. Then mine suffer the same fate.

One thing I want now is that little thing Billy Mays advertised some years ago. The bit that helps you back out a stripped screw. Most of them you have to have a drill bit first then you put in the back-out bit. With Craftman it's all in one. Route it out, flip it over and back it out.

I love power tools, i have been asking for the womens drill set for a couple of years but i think that my children doesn't really think i mean it. The regular drill is too heavy to use for long periods of time. I guess i am going to get it for myself!

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

I noticed with the kids sometimes you have to just spell it out to them. They sure can't take a hint.

myLot reputation of 97/100. cjgrooms (3235)   ranked 4 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

Sure they can, they just usually misunderstand what your talking about and you end up with a sewing kit instead of a tool kit.

Here's a picture of a pretty purple power drill, tell them you want it.

Do you still like purple?

Hey, above this in the other post I referred to Mel buying her dad a power drill, I am referring to Wade anytime I use the expression dad or father.

I do still love lavender, and i knew perfectly well who you were talking about when you said DAD.

I've used just about any power tool you can imagine. Hubbs and I work on projects together around the house and I grew up around mechanics and home renovations since I could walk. I was also very much the stereotypical "tom boy" growing up and loved shop class.

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

That is so cool, I've only become more interested over the past few years. I think it's because I can't get the hubby to odd and end things around here.

He'll do them, just not when I want them done, better to just do it myself.

myLot reputation of 33/100. ShealM (264)  4 years ago

*lol*

I have the same attitude. I can't seem to get hubbs to do it when I want it done so I might as well do it myself and get it done when I want it to be done. I have to give him credit though, he works 12 to 14 hour shifts as a sub-contractor in the towing industry and still finds time at least to cuddle and play with his children and that take precedence over house renovations or repairs.

I've always been leary of power tools. Just too much potential for injury if not used with full attention. My preferance is the regular, non-powered tools. They take more muschle power (and time), but then I'm not usually working on large projects.

Once I do get into larger projects around the house, however, I know I will need to start using power tools because of the time factor.

myLot reputation of 33/100. ShealM (264)  4 years ago

I see your point completely about potential for injury. My uncle ended up with over 200 to 400 stitches when he had an accident with a circular saw a little over 2 years ago. Bloody well scared the living daylights out of all of us when it happened. He wasn't paying attention cutting up scrap wood and he ended up slicing his leg up the thigh in the front and narrowly missed major blood vessel but unfortunately will be unable to heal completely from the nerve damage that it did. He destroyed most of the major nerve tissue in his thigh because of the accident. The safety guard was jimmy rigged (by him) to not come down to make jobs faster (he's a mechanic and renovations contractor) and he was extremely fatigued when he was working with the circular saw when the accident happened.

That is so true, power tools can be very dangerous. Actually any tool can be dangerous. When I worked a mobile home plant I can't count the times I fumbled a hammer when working on something over head and bounced the thing off my skull, or jabbed a screw driver in my hand.

Have you ever seen the pink set of tools they offer for women? Please, spare me. I love power tools, do I have to buy pink ones to assure my femininity? rolleyes

I have one tiny problem. I cut the cords all the time.

myLot reputation of 33/100. ShealM (264)  4 years ago

I'm sorry, I had a chuckle at the last statement because I've watched hubby do that on occasion too! I agree with you, why do we need pink power tools - the regular colored ones work just fine and what is with trying to feminize power tools with the color pink?

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

lol Girls, your right, we don't need pink. But it sure comes in handy when the husband will take an extra hour looking for his tools that he has scattered here and there.

My husband won't be caught dead in the front yard using anything that is pink. So that means when I need a tool, it'll be right where I left it.

He has always had an aversion to pink.

I use lots of powertools, but I have to say that chainsaws still scare me a little. I usually use bench-mounted saws or table saws that don't have the danger of kicking back on you if hit a knot or something. I have used a reciprocating saw for branches and stuff. I find them a little less intimidating since the blade it farther from your hands and the blade doesn't "self feed" since it goes back and forth instead of in a circle.

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

Chainsaws are scary, but I would love to have my own. We live in the country and I have all these little oak trees out back that need thinning and I want to use them for firewood.

Sometimes I sit on my backsteps, look at all those little trees, and just think about having all that wood for the winter.

These trees won't ever amount to anything because of the other around them.

I love, love love power tools. My husband and I are big do-it-yourselfers. I jump at the chance to use power tools on our projects. My favorite so far has to be the nail gun!

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

Nail guns, is there anything cooler lol. So far I haven't come up on any projects that require a nail gun. Most of what I do is puttering around here.

I like power tools. My dad is a mechanic and has woodworking power tools, so I've used most of those at some point in my life. Currently though I need a weed wacker that i can handle, I really don't want to use my husbands gas powered one. I'm sure I'd be hurting after 5-10 minutes of that. I saw an info-mercial about one, of course I can't remember the name of it, but it looked like something that i'd really like.

Sometime's I do wish i had the right power tool, just so I could get the job done myself and not have to wait for my hubby to have the time.

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head, I'd rather do it myself too then wait on my husband to it.

I have always used a little electric weed-eater. I don't mind dragging the cord around with me, it beats dealing with trying to get a gas one to crank, not to mention they are no where near as heavy.

Sometimes I will even go to get some of my father-in-laws extention cords so I can reach the very edge of the property. I finally decided to just get weed killer for that. I hate the way grass grows all in the fence line, it doesn't matter how much I cut my grass and weed-eat, it looks scruffy if there is a lot of grass in the fence and it's impossible to get it all with the weed-eater, not to mention it eats up the line.

My little weed-eater cost less than $30.00 and it has lasted about five years so far, I have more than got my money back out of it.

I wouldn't like a chain saw but I have a few of my own tools...I have a drill..a jigsaw....sander and a few other odds and ends...I think it's time we caught up to the men with their tools! LOL

myLot reputation of 97/100. SusanLee (1121)   ranked 1 out of 4 in power tools  4 years ago

I agree, and now they come in so many 'pretty' colors.

Sometimes it's just easier to do it ourselves lol
