Scanners that see through clothing installed in US airports...

Now they see through our clothes! - scanners on clothes

Security scanners which can see through passengers' clothing and reveal details of their body underneath are being installed in 10 US airports, the US Transportation Security Administration said Tuesday. A random selection of travelers getting ready to board airplanes in Washington, New York's Kennedy, Los Angeles and other key hubs will be shut in the glass booths while a three-dimensional image is made of their body beneath their clothes. The booths close around the passenger and emit "millimeter waves" that go through cloth to identify metal, plastics, ceramics, chemical materials and explosives, according to the TSA. Do you think this is an invasion of our privacy and going just a little bit too far? Will it change your method of travel if you fly often?

Oh My! I wonder if there will be any surprises under peoples clothes? What have you got there, that no one else has? Have there been any babys born who were ratically different under their clothes? I'm wondering what an invasion of privacy consists of? Why not train "feelers" so they wouldn't need any "seers"? Would this go over better at the Airports? Oh My! Its hard to please everyone isn't it?

I have just heard about scanners installed at airports in the UK but this is the first thing that I have heard about scanners installed in airports in the USA. I didn't know what that scanners could do but I am shocked to hear they allow a view through clothing. I am surprised at this because most people are innocent passengers not dangerous criminals. I think it invades people's privacy. Events at Los Angeles Airport I remember were sniffer dogs going along a line of passengers waiting and finding out there wasn't a post office there. I had postcards that I wasn't able to send. They were in a high state of alert then and with news of these scanners it seems they still are. I will still travel in the same way I used to, but I wouldn't bring my laptop to the States if the Federal Agents want to view it. I am just an innocent traveler.

See this is an old discussion but thought I would answer. First I can't help think what a blatant invasion of privacy this is. I mean yes, I know with the way the world is now that we need security measures that things need to be done...but this? Also my concern...these "waves" that do the scanning...just what KIND of waves are they..are they radioactive type waves...if so, then that could pose a health risk as well by being exposed to them.
