What's your best potty training tips for night time? Do you have any techniques to make night time potty training easier?
When I was potty training my child, I had no idea what I was doing. I just let her lead the way and tell me when she was ready. And, it worked out for the best. Sure, I'd read all the parenting books and even talked to friends. But, their experiences did not mirror mine. So I had to wing it.
I started trying to potty train my daughter between the age of two or three (actually just before two) and it took her over a year to get it right. She is still fine tuning the details. But, she is very well potty trained. At first she didn't like the toilet, but now she is so proud of her new abilities.
My best advice for any mom is to let the child lead the way. Offer lots of praise and rewards (if you want) for a good job. Just keep at it, and familiarize your child with the process the best you can.
It may take a while, especially night time potty training. Lots of patience and encouragement. And, be sure to cut out all liquids for the toddler within two hours before bedtime. One other thing that worked for us, was to make sure she went to the bathroom several times before bedtime. That is essential for night time potty training. That's all I can suggest. The more practice your toddler gets at holding it overnight the better he or she will do. There are going to be accidents. So, be prepared.
Resign yourself to the fact that night time potty training may take up to a year or more, before they can go all night without one accident. Don't get mad. That's the worst thing for your child's self confidence. If they wet the bed, it's an accident because their bladder is not strong enough yet and it's not a cry for attention. No kid would purposely do that kind of thing.
And, make sure your child knows that it's OK to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, if they feel the urge. That will make them feel more confident.
You can choose to use the store training pants, if you want. You know your child, best. We didn't use them. They were confusing for our child. What's your best tips for night time potty training your child?

Well, my first child was just really good at holding in her bladder and she rarely had accidents starting around 2 - 2 1/2 years of age. My second daughter had more of a problem with that, so for a while I would just wake up once in the middle of the night and take her to go. I also cut off liquids at about 6pm, (her bed time was 7:30pm), and then of course made her go to the potty before bedtime, and then again around 1am or that time. I also got those plastic panties and just put them over her regular panties to help her feel the wetness whenever she did have accidents. I found that if I gave her pullups, she would just feel like they were diapers and go in them, so I stopped that real quick. I also just lined her bed with those waterproof covers to help for easy cleanup. She got it over time, I think we really started potty training her around 2 and she because fully trained around 2 1/2, and it took about 3 months after that to get her trained in the bed. However, my friend's have children (boys) who still wet the bed at around 3 & 3 1/2. I guess it's just different for all kids.

I better not tell you any of my tips, as my son was 11 years old when he was totally trained! Gee, I rather not even talk about that, as it was difficult! Everybody complains about births, but as far as I was concerned that was easier!!!

I potty trained 4 kids both boys and girls. They were all trained by the age of 2. I had 4 kids in about 5 years. @ of them were about 18 months a part and 2 were just a year apart. Any way as I would get up to care for the baby I would take the older child to the potty. I think the worst thing for potty training is disposable diaper and now those pull-ups. The disposables keep the child dry and comfortable. as do the pull-ups. If the child is put in tarry cloth panties when they wet they will feel the wetness and feel uncomfortable so learn that they don't like it and can be potty trained sooner. Sure it can be messy at time, like poo but if you get them potty trained sooner isn't it worth the mess.

while your system is good for most children, there really is no "night time training".
this will occure when the bladder has grown large enough to hold it all night, while it does grow normally with the child, many times it does not,and bedwetting can last into the teen years and beyond.
As you say, this is nothing to worry about, ask your doctor and they will tell you, they do not concider bedwetting a problem untill the child is around 7 years of age.
Many Blessings.

come on, it is not such a thing to worry about so seriously. make the child comfortable. just tell him that it is good manners to use the toilet. just show him the taps, how water runs and the like. make toilet a healthy place where the child does not get scared to go. have flashy taps, some eerie and stylish showers. and whenever you take him for toilet at night, keep him engaged. talk about the advantages, encourage him to use it. last but not the least, wait for the right age before pressing and rebuking.a couple of years relaxation won't hurt anyway.

my son is 2 and he isnt potty trained yet he will tell me after he goes number 2 but he wont tell me when he goes number 1. sometimes he will sit on the potty but he wont do anything on it. and when he does ask to sit on it, its maybe once or twice a month. he also see's his new baby sister using diapers so i guess he is still trying to be the "baby" also so i dont wanna push to hard for him to use the potty.
