Hey guys, I'm a drama student studying at University. I often write short scenes or even whole plays that I then put on within the drama department. I was wondering when you write (if you do?) where you get your inspiration from. I get mine often from events that have diectly happened to me. I embellish these to make it fit with the storyline that I'm writing. I do sometimes make things up completly but I find it easier to write if I'm basing it on something I've experienced. How about you?

hi beki710! I write on and off, most of it unshown.. but when I completely create things from scratch like creating a character, I create a little back story from people I've known and alter it (Its important because some people can get offended if they know its a portrail of them or directly drawn from them). I usually create a template like 3 characters, back story, setting, motivations and then change little things and generate variations on it. sounds techie but if you do it fast and loose, better idea's can just be 'slotted' in. sometimes I can get inspiration from the strangest places, like I saw a homeless person and thought how invisible you are ( I've been homeless myself) to ordinary people but how difficult it is to get by. sometimes I just ask myself what would it like to be ..... and then just follow it from there and then follow it up with research.

My Muse is Johnny Depp -- he play's such fantastical characters that it makes me try and make my characters different and skunky and weird.
Inspiration usually comes from something I like. I love mysteries and writting my own is quite interesting. Espceially when I am trying not to give everything away. Pirates is another thing that I like. THe first book of mine that got published was about pirates -- s0 -- doing all of that research was wonderful. I wasn't able to use half of it, but because I had an understanding of how things worked, I could write the historical scenes much better.

If ever I write about something (Which isnt often) I write it based on something that has happend in my life. Something that makes me who I am. I also like to base things around music as I have a great interest in different music types.
Making things up is a good way of using your imagination. It shows your creative. I like to make things up cos I think its funny what I can come up with.
Good luck on your play writing stuff (Y)

Dreams, thoughts, faces, something I've seen all make up where my ideas come from.

My inspiration comes from my own life experiences. I find that it's easiest for me to write when I'm stressed or overwhelmed, for whatever reason that's when words really seem to flow.
When it comes to writing more uplifting I get my inspiration from life experiences that I have shared with my daughter.
