one extreme or another? First, I couldn't get a job, now I keep having people come out of the woodwork to get me a job. This happens a lot in my life. First, I can't find any way to make any money, then I have a flood of offers. One extreme or the other. Have you had either no work or too much in waves like this?

Yea. It's like either you have waves of interviews or you have none. I didn't really experience having too many job offers at a time but I did experience having all interviews all together and I know how it feels, sort of overwhelming!

Overwhelming is a good term for it. Thanks and take care.

Depends on what sort of work you do, if you are home-working or self-employed, I guess you can do as many separate jobs as you are practically and physically able to. Personally I have always stuck to doing one full-time job and I earn enough there not to need to take up part-time work. Using sites like this is mostly for fun for me, the money is hardly noticeable for what it actually is. I have been in the situation before where I've been for a few job interviews and had been offered 2 or 3 roles and had to make a decision about which role to take though; which was flattering but a difficult choice to make :)

Yes, I had to decide amoung three jobs one time. It's hard to know if you made the right choice. Thanks and take care.

Well, when it comes to work, it is an interesting thought. I have worked a couple of different jobs, and then had things like being laid off, let go, etc. to where I was really needing a job again as well. The job I am working now, my Unemployment was getting ready to run out, and I had been applying online like at http://craigslist.com for here in my area, and got 6 responses back to the 7 jobs I actually applied for. I ended up taking the one offered to me first, and have been there now going on 2 yrs. in 2 weeks. So all I can say, is don't give up, continue to think positive and make sure what you end up settling with will be the one that will work out the best for you.
Wishing you the best.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.
It's hard to know what to do when it comes to sales. Also hard to know about a job without actually doing the job.
I'm working three part-time jobs now. 2 sales and one tutoring. I'm worried that I will loose all three jobs. Sales are down in two and one, once he passes the Civil Service test, he won't need me anymore.

Consider yourself fortunate and very talented. Obviously you have something people want. What a good feeling.
I have never had people begging me to work for them. Maybe it has to do with my age? I work away from the house at one facility but for two different departments. Neither job is many hours so I could handle another 2 day a week job but prefer doing something in an office so I can sit. I haven't contacted any of the temporary agencies since my idea of a fun job is not being shuffled all over. I like being close to home and work shorter hours.
Sorry I am so late in responding to your discussion. It was buried in a ton of emails I had and fell so far behind that I'm just getting around to answering some of them.
Have a great afternoon,
carolbee

I've been working at my job for almost 7 years. I do love it but have back problems and just have trouble standing for hours. I can collect SS in November (62) and my husband encourages me to do so. Mentally I am very alert and very reliable so I do understand. I will continue to work as long as my body will allow me. I'm working with the public and that's my cup of tea.
Good luck,
carolbee

Also lots of people prefer people that are older, in my area, many young people say they will show up on a certain day and at a certain time and never do.
Some people/places hire mostly older people because we're reliable. If we say we're going to do something, we do. Take care.

Yes this recently happened to me. I was job hunting for months and months, went to a bunch of interviews and didn't get an offer. Then finally I found the job I have now. It's good fit for me and I'm quite happy with it, so the wait was definitely worth it. But what a long drawn out processs. I got a call on my answering machine about a job I applied for months ago last week. This week I got an email asking me to call for an interview on another job I applied for awhile back. I'm not going to pursue the interviews since I like where I am now, but ti makes me wish I knew how this hiring process works with these companies.
Also are there some kind of laws in the universe that when you want something too much, you don't get it? I think so.

When I was just out of college, I went for months without a job and then, three at one time. Now, decades later, all over again.
Yeah, I've noticed that, too. If I hate a job, no problem getting it. If I would love a job, someone else gets it.
Also, if a job makes me happy, it doesn't pay. If it makes me miserable, it does. So I can be happy and not pay my bills or miserable and pay them. I've come to those conclusions. Thanks and take care.
