How much money do you spend on your electric bill for summer versus winter?

During the summer time our electric power bill goes up to $150 or more. Some of my friends have said that they spend up to $300 every month on electricity. And I don't doubt it! The only reason that we skate by with such a big savings is that we don't have central ac, so instead use window air conditioners. One of our newest window AC units only costs $46 yearly to use! There's no way to ever cut off the AC during the summer time, cause it gets so hot and stifling in our house. To make matters worse, we have bad insulation, so the heat comes right through the walls. I save money elsewhere by being more conservative on food and other expenses. We watch free movies online instead of having cable. And, I cut corners during the fall and spring by not running the AC or heater. And, instead use fans throughout the house. It's so nice in our area during those times and rarely cold. During those times, our electric bill goes down to $85. So it evens out to less than $100 monthly year round. I'm still looking for ways to cut costs on electricity. Do you have any money saving suggestions for cutting the electric bill? How much money do you spend on electricity every month?

That sound like great ideas watching free movies and grocery expensises. I understand how you feel with electricity. Ours gets closeto 200.oo sometimes. I am so glad my brother -n law and my sister came last week to move the air conditioner to a window where there is shade above it. It was in a window where the sun was shining on it. So it wasn't doing to much good at all for me. Now it feels wondeful. I have to watch how much I spend on grocieries also. I need to find these free movies. I rent a lot from Netflix. The one movie at a time deal. It is alright for the price.

Good news about you AC. I can definitely commisserate with you on the heat. It's a killer. We got the new ac for our daughter's room and she is loving it, so far. It helps to cool half the house! It's a really good one. I always put free movies on my movie blog. I just kept running into all these great freebies online and everyone wanted to know where to find them, so I put them on a blog. You can find the "free movies" banner on my profile page. I'm always adding more. So check back often. Let me know what you're looking for, TV or movie wise and I might be able to get some links to those movies, too.

I will have to wait untill I go to Staples to get my other computer tower fixed anyhow before i can watch movies. The sound is gone on the one I am using now whicH I hate.I accidently messed up the tower I got from Staples. I messed up the dvd drive. It was pulled out and I accidently hit it. I am glad I got a deal where they will fix it for 2 years.

I am living in tropical country so the temperature is kind of consistent through out the year. So, my electricity bill is stable and it is ranging between RM38 to RM49. Our government is planning to increase the charge due to petrol price hike. It's because most of the electricity power are generated using fossil fuel. Therefore, finding ways to save the petrol as well as electricity is the prime concern for everyone. Since we don't have summer here, and as long as I could bear the heat, I won't turn on the air conditioner. I will turn off the light or fan when I no longer need it. The habit is important in saving electricity. I have seen people leave the fans or light on even though they are not at home.

I think awareness is the only way to counter such wasting. With the exponential growth of population globally, energy is becoming more and more precious. In other words, more people are sharing small amount of resource. Hopefully the government put more effort in cultivating the culture of saving the precious energy.

I have seen that too. And it is a shame that others would waste such a precious energy resource when they are not actively using it!

My electric bill in the winter can get up to $200 a month but summer is way lower as I dont use my central air too much. I have ceiling fans in each room so we use those to cool the house as often as we possibly can. But im sure this year I will need the AC alot more than normal.

We should really get some ceiling fans. I've been trying to get the hubby to install some for years, but he keeps delaying. Maybe this summer he finally will! Fingers crossed!

It does not really go up from winter to summer because we have all electric. I was happy to see that the electric bill that came today was almost $70 less than it was last month!

The winter that we have just had we were spending £100 GBP per month on electric about $200, and now the weather is warmer we are spending £60 GBP which is about $120. The only things that I have done to cut down are to stop using the tumble dryer!

The dryer does use up a lot of money!

i spend around $50 or above per month for my electricity bill... but it never hits more than $55... i always try to use as little electricity as i can... fortunately, me and my hubby are both working full time and we hardly at home... so we don't use much electricity except during weekends when we are not working... take care and have a nice day...

For some reason, our electricity is really high here. It's just a regional thing. We pay about $80 per month during spring, winter, and fall. We use all fluorescent light bulbs, and unplug stuff that isn't in use, and have all energy star appliances (except MAYBE our washer or dryer one, we didn't buy it, it came with the house, and didn't have the paperwork), but electricity is just high here. I can't remember what the cost is per kilowatt hour, but I know that it's about 1.5-2 times what it is where I'm from!! I compared my bill to my parents' bill while I was home last month. Anyway, during the summer, our electric bill runs around $100-125 per month. That's only for 2-3 months, though. Even with paying that much more for electricity, we still save so much money on propane that we don't mind the extra electricity charges! During the winter, we go through around 100 gallons of propane a month, and pay as much as $2.99 per gallon!!

as high as $600,and as low as $90,but never lower than that. and that's with conserving,i don't have AC,just fans.our power company keeps giving itself increases,4 times last year,so it's gonna be high no matter what you do.

Hello beautyqueen26, My average bill monthly is around $20. Maybe it sounds cheap to you but I guess it is an average electricity bill here. I have air conditioners too and some electrical appliances that I use daily. In July, they are going to revise the tariff. I am not too sure how much it will cost me monthly but I do hope it won't increase too much.

Our last electric bill was $178, I expect this next one to be around $250, that is what it was last year at this time, but I have not gotten it yet, so I can not say for sure, during July and August it is usually between $250 and $290.

My electric bills aren't too high. Summer time use runs about 85 a month and winter it can increase to an average of 103 per month but that is only because I have a few electric heaters to offset the higher cost of propane.

About 100RMB or 150RMB of all my home, because we litlle to open the air-conditioner ,not waste any electricity! Sometimes, the computer which have been invade by the virus will cost so much electricity because the computer have opened and closed again and again which is so boring me! Besides, you could find so much ways to save the electricity!

Ofcourse the summer bill is always more.bcoz we r most used to cold than heat.and we cant bear heat much.i think u r most conservative in using electricity.u have almost done every thing u can do to cut costs on electricity. I have a funny suggestion. If u have a roof on top of your house u can place a cot there and sleep on the roof top during nights in summer. Then u dont need to use electricity.believe me it will be very refreshing to sleep on roof top.u wil get fresh air and u can sleep happily in sync with nature.
