Your house is on fire. You have time to grab one sentimental item. What do you grab and why?

My husband and my dog that is all I need... Honestly there really isn't any way I could pick on sentimental thing because I couldn't choose since I have something from so many different relatives who passed or are still living that are left to me that I hope to pass on and then things my husband gave me like from when we first started dating and our wedding day. I would cry no matter what. Even my furnisher is passed down, there is no replacing anything and I pray I will never know that pain of losing those things.

I can actually answer this from a personal point of view, because my family's been there. Besides grabbing my pocketbook (with the majority of my banking info, checkbook, business cards) I'd also grab my large box of family photos. My father's house burnt to the ground after being hit by lightning. All of my childhood memories were there, ribbons I won with my horses, family treasures from our ancestors, and many other irreplaceable things. It was by a stroke of good luck that I had the large box of family pictures with the family genealogy stuff in it. I had taken the box to my house to organize, and it was there at the time of the fire. Of all the things we all lost, we considered this to be the most precious thing to not have lost. Pictures and genealogy from the early 1800's would be impossible to replace. The memories of our childhood, my parents wedding, and many other fond family memories meant more than anything that we lost. Furniture, clothes, etc can be replaced, but these wonderful pictures of all of our years mean a lot more.

Oh wow, you are so right that those items cannot be replaced. Memories such as those are a once in a lifetime occurance.

The first thing I would do is make sure my family and pets were out of the house. Then I have no idea what I would grab. This winter we watched as our neighbors home burned to the ground. It was sad and I felt so sorry for them. I hope that never happens to me.

Well, this isn't extremely sentimental, but I would grab my notebook. I have all my important papers and stuff I can't replace in a binder with page protectors. So if there was a fire I would take that first because that is what it's for - in case of emergency, I have all my stuff. If I had a tiny bit more time, I'd take my boxes of photos. I would feel a huge loss if I ever lost them.

I've been there and done THAT more times than I think you'll believe. I've been through 5 fires almost 6 in my lifetime. 3 almost 4 house fires, a truck fire and a camper fire. The things I'd grab first are my family members/fur babies, pictures and purse. The rest can be replaced.

I would grab my son's photo album. Those pictures are irreplaceable. Come to think of it, I should probably put them in a fireproof safe or something, or at least scan them and put them onto a disc somewhere else for safe keeping.
