Beautiful is the autistic mind

I am sorry to say that I have always seen the beauty in autism. My son is living proof of it. It is so nice to hear that other children with autism can be so creative and have such a beautiful way of wording things. My son is not very articulate but he is very creative with building things and solving puzzles. I guess that they just have their own way about them. Thank you for sharing your story.

First, you daughter is adorable! Just adorable. The honesty that she has and that she can record her feelings. That's just amazing Doublelove. I had a little catch when I was reading it.

I've been with my children in public, I notice how others react to them, and I shake my head. I just don't see what they do. I can not think of someone that is more lovable or empathetic.

What a beautiful song! Your daughter is so sweet. What a gentle heart and kind spirit she has. I only know a handful of things about autism (you may refresh my memory about the condition if you'd like and have the time), but I know it can be difficult on everyone it affects. That's what makes your daughter's creativity so wonderful. You must be so blessed as a parent to see such wonderful things come from your child! I'd be interested to learn more about this condition although I know that if you put your mind to it, you can overcome anything even if it's a medical condition...you can choose to be pulled down by it or to be positive in spite of it. I've really been encouraged by and learned so much from your positive attitude, so I know what your choice is regarding this obstacle in your life. Of course, I know you don't see it as that like other people might. I know a man who has cancer and was told 4 or 5 years ago that he didn't have long to live. He's the happiest man you would've ever known because he's chosen not to be sad over his condition. (After all, doctors can be wrong sometimes!) He's also used his condition to minister to others and brighten up their lives as well. What a wonderful testimony! I see similar effects coming about as a result of your circumstances. I've always been told that where there are hardships in life, look out because God is just waiting to pour down His blessings! I've definitely been blessed by your testimony here. The counselor did the best thing anybody could do for your daughter. And that is a simples task the counselor was there for her when she needed reassurance and most of all help in all ways.

I am not autistic, but have lived and been threatened by Autism for several years now.

Well, my daughter is autistic and I know the most important aspect of her needs. Just being there for her is all she needs. It could mean being there quietly holding her hands why she tries to tell me in her own words (of course very little, and sometimes with tears, and other times when physical bruises too) why she is upset when nothing really was there to cause her to feel this way. But again, since she is upset, just being there to let her know that I care enough to be around while she sort out this feeling. It could simply be the chair is on the wrong side of the room, the pencil is not where it was suppose to be. Her cup was not on the left side, but right side of the table.

All this matters to them, or the dress is polyester and not cotton. The socks lining a little too far out and it bugs her feet. The shoes are was not tighten the same way, right foot and left foot. I forgot and use a different route to go home and forgot to warn her first because there is a road closure etc. All this matters to her and it makes a world of difference.

I am glad your daughter has met that person who can help her understand there are people out there that cares for her and does not mind she has special needs.

I am still seeking that same character for my daughter.

Wow, that is very sweet. I am touched also reading just a part of her composition..I always value each person..I work for 9 years with different people when I was teaching and being with the kids, makes me learn more how about their feelings, their views about their family,friends and surroundings. I always give attention before to the kids who are special. True they are irritating in the class but once you will get to know them and understand them well...you will learn a lot from them, their needs and their simple wishes in life..
For your daughter, I would say, she has the skills and talents..and you are lucky to have this girl and she is also lucky to have you as her parents for you were able to see the beauty in her!

Hi. This is my first time I am responding to this site and I am glad that it is to to you and your daughter. First of all your daughter is beautiful and her words ring so true to heart. I have a 10 year old son with autism. I have been looking in from the outside for ten years. And there is still so much I have to learn about him. He cannot convey his words like your daughter can. He expresses his feelings with actions and few words. And I believe in the comment you posted in a discussion that they are the normal and we are confused. They do not hide behind anything. They are who they are...pure, innocent and true. They reach out to people regardless of who they are or what they see. I believe I am that kind of person but I do agree that more people need to be like that. If just one person reached out to another, one persons hurt could be healed. I believe there is a reason for everything. Maybe the reason your daughter wrote that poem is for you to see a little bit of what she sees through her eyes. Maybe those words are her way for you to see inside her. I never take anything for granted anymore and I now look at things in a whole new light. And I beleive my son is the reason for that.

doubleloveyou yes I have read other places some of the poems and songs written by autisitic kids and there was really beauty in them, thy were focussing on that which is very good and the
writiting was truly delightful. so give credit where credit is due. autisitc children have much to give us if we but listen,
