How Are Yours Doing?

Three of My Tomato Plants -
These three plants should be producing fruit soon, as they have quite a few flowers.

My tomato plants that I put in pails have started to yellow at the bottom, but each of them still has one tomato growing and plenty of flowers, so I don't know if they'll bear much fruit, but I'll get at least one from each of them. It's not over yet! These three that are alongside the house were planted a little later than the others, and they're doing awesome. You can't see the flowers due to the leaves, but they're there and I've seen tiny bees in the area, so I'm sure they're doing their job and I'll see baby tomatoes soon. I think I did pretty good starting from seed - and I don't even like tomatoes! Are you eating any of your tomatoes yet? My husband is chomping at the bit, waiting impatiently with his fork, can of tuna, and jar of mayonnaise.

We have gotten a few tomatoes off our plants here. I planted cherry tomato plants this year and it is the first year I gotta a yield. I also go a few green beans and I mean a few. The pea plants were a total bust but I might get one or two squash before it is over with. I signed up for a program with a local farm to get veggies directly from them once a week during the summer and last week they sent me so many tomatoes that after I got done seeding and cutting them up I had two gallon size bags full of tomatoes. I ended up cooking them down for the kids to mix with cheese raviolis cause we have two packages of grape tomatoes plus my cherry ones for salads.

I just found out about a month ago I'm allergic to tomatoes LOL. How is that for ironic? But my kids love them and will eat them right off the vine or bush if I don't stop them soon enough to wash them at least. The first year I tried my hand at tomatoes, my daughter got a hold of everyone as soon as they turns a solid red and at them right there on the spot. We didn't have many but everyone of them was hers.

My bean plants did good except for those that the baby bunnies got, so I'm not getting enough at maturity for even a meal, just a few beans at a time, so I'm just eating them straight from the bush. My sugar snap peas are doing very well and so tall that I've run out of things to stake them with! I started another discussion about them too. That's a lot of tomatoes you got, for sure. I don't even like tomatoes, so as long as I get enough for my husband to enjoy for his tomato/tuna/mayo lunch, I'll be happy. If I get more that I can make a few jars of sauce with, all the better.

The few I have are still very small and green, but there are lots more flowers hopefully that will be pollinated. Again, I started several plants at different times, so I hope they come in through the summer. My husband will be happy if they do!

my neighbors & i just planted 7 tomato plants, 4 pepper plants & 5 squash. i'm not able to get down & plant them so they did that. i have been trying to keep the grass cleaned out of them now he's had open heart surgery since we planted them so hope i can keep up. i've had gout on top of my back troubles etc. but i'm stubborn enough to hang in there w/that garden. i've really enjoyed watching it grow. my tomatoes have blooms but can't wait till some of them get right. i'm like your husband i like tuna & tomatoes. have a good one. jo

We have gotten a lot of cherry tomatoes off the vine already. The bigger variety are getting ready to be picked also. Lots of fruit this year!! I am proud of all my tomato plants even the one who is smaller than all the rest.

I started all of mine from seed at various times, so I will have them coming in for a longer period through the summer (I hope!) I just have the one type of tomato, the big boy beefsteak or somesuch. I think cherry tomatoes are easier, but my husband wanted the big guy.

I picked and ate my first cherry tomato this past weekend. Hubby, joking upset, said he wanted to eat it. While weeding my garden, I found loads of baby tomatoes and flowers along with a few green peppers and flowers as well.

I think cherry tomatoes would have been easier to do, especially in the containers, but my husband wanted the big guys so that's what I planted. They're popping up slowly but surely, and I should have flowers on my peppers soon. The sugar snap peas are coming in too, and they are about 5 ft tall now and still reaching for the clouds.

We had our first one over the weekend. It was so good. We have some growing in our green house and some growing out in the garden. Naturally, the ones in the green house are a little a head of the ones outside. I need to get some bacon so we can have BLT's. It's a shame it got too hot for our lettuce. That would have been the ultimate our own lettuce and tomato!!! Yummy!

Mine is still not anywhere near eating size and still very green too, of course. I do have a few more small ones popping out on the various plants, so I'm hoping they hurry up!

I can just see him "chomping at the bit" as if it is a great race to a great taste. Too early for homegrown tomatoes just yet, especially since I was a slow starter. I did not have any yellowing on my vines, but the first two times I planted, something came along and ate the tops right off the plants. I can see one tomato for sure, and it is a beef steak or better boy, cannot remember what I planted. It is bigger than a ping pong ball and not so round, but more flattened. I love fresh, homegrown tomatoes and hope to find some in the farmer's market soon. Have a wonderful day. Nice of you to plant tomatoes for hubby, since you do not like them. I had better get some radishes planted for mine.

I needed things to plant that I could do in containers or small areas, and since he loves tomatoes so much, it seemed the thing to do. It will sure be cheaper (and much better!) than buying them at the store. Even if I don't like to eat them, I enjoy nurturing things in my little garden.

Not doing so well with plants this year. Maybe next year I will get around to doing some more container gardening. Right now, I have to clear the back yard for a garden. I have a spot picked out near the fence. It's the right size. I'm just worried that the Landlord will send someone out and mow over my garden, even if I put up a small fence. He came out last week and cut down my shade trees in the front yard. Now the front of the house swelters in the afternoon sun! Best of luck with your plants. Let us know how they turn out. Be well. Well that stinks. He didn't even tell you he was cutting them? I'm renting a small place here too and my landlord is right next door. He better not think about doing anything like that to me! (He's a nice guy so I don't think he would).

My tomatoes look like they are in pretty good shape. I have a few small tomatoes and plenty of blossoms. I picked a pepper, but their arent any tomatoes that are ready yet. I planted some onions also. I will be happy when I can start pulling fresh stuff out of the garden.

I'm really ready for these tomatoes to ripen so that my husband can enjoy them. He is tickled that I am going to all this trouble for him, but I'm having fun and it keeps me off the streets!

Yep, containers is the way to go if you can't have a 'real' garden. This is my first time doing it and so far I've done pretty good, with the little knowledge and limited resources I have to work with.
