I have been taking a nutrition class and last night I fixed supper with no meat and I was surprised my husband didnt even notice. So do you always cook with a meat? Would your family notice if you didnt use one?

Dinner in this house almost always has some type of meat in it. The only time I really cook a meal without any meat is when I am making spaghetti. I rarely make it with meat.

Hello Baileycows, Yes my husband definately notices everytime I cook dinner without using meat - he is truly a meat lover. Myself on the other hand, could totally go meatless! I don't need the meat and personally love all the alternatives - beans, veggies, mushrooms, etc. However, because he really needs and loves meat, I try to just accomodate him. I'm trying to move toward fish more though. We don't really eat pork or red meat too often - sometimes crave a good steak, but not too often.

When I used to cook meatless chili, my honey would complain that the chili tasted bad because there was no beef. Now, he can't eat beef for health reasons and so never notices when the meat is gone. Usually I grill up chicken or fish on the George Foreman grill machine and we eat that with steamed veggies. But I could probably make a meatless meal easily. I've noticed that we're all eating lots healthier lately and feeling better without the beef! Whenever I'm trying to cut down on meats in meal, I put in an extra helping of kidney beans or veggies into the dish. Gives the mouth the feel of beef, without the unhealthy fats and sodium!

I don't always cook with meat. Most times now I use chickpeas, black beans, or red beans in my salads. For some soups, the red beans is my substitute for meat. Beans are a great protein source.

I know that I shouldn't but I use meat in almost every meal, except when we get down in funds. I like veggies, beans, and grains but I think I was brought up so heavy on the four food groups that it's hard to get around it. My girlfriend could quite possibly be a carnivore, and I don't think that helps much. The only meals we generally have meatless are lunches. We make big salads or have quick pasta meals for lunch that aren't very filling. Thanks for the interesting post.

we used to eat meat which made up most of the meal how-ever due to the cost i am cuting back .stews only has a small portion of meat with the rest vegies i for one am enjoying them. home made tuna patties, two nights a week meatless and home-pizza again more vegies then meat although a little more meat goes on his side so he does'n feel deprived lol
