If you were me, what would you say? |
|
Ive been working at this retail store in the mall for almost a year. I am younger then the rest and I was getting paid less up until recently (becuase you need to be 18 to close, and I was under 18 so I didnt get that wage) I feel like Im getting walked all over. I used to get about 20 hours a week. Thats now been cut down to bout...5. And the hours of all my co workers have gone up. The newest addition to our "team" is best friends with the assistant manager. She is moving in with her so the manager is giving her alot more hours then usual becuase she needs to make rent. Everyone there except me has another job and everyones getting the hours Im supposed to get! What would you do..quit and find a new job. or? Advice is appreciated:)

2. azkadellia (302) | 6 months ago | I would probably have to say quit the current job you are at and find a new job. That's pretty crappy how you are getting treated and if I were you I wouldn't let that fly. Of course I kind of think it's my way or the high way...so that might be the reason why I wouldn't let this happen to me. Good luck YoungInLove.:D

Go out of you way to do more when you are at work. In the mean time you have a lot f time to go looking for another job. I would also explain to the manager that you want improve your working skills and that you you might start looking for a new job. Good luck with your decisions.

6. Linda4ualways (1063) | 6 months ago | I will not quit my job and then look for another. I would keep the job I have because a little money is better than no money at all and look for another one and if you find one, then give your present job a two-week notice. However, in your case you may not need to give them a notice. I wish the best because in these times it's hard to find a job and here where I live, people are getting fired and re-assigned left and right.

Explain that you do enjoy your job but feel that you are not getting the hours you were hired for. Ask if there is a reason for this. S/he may have a legitimate explanation or not, but either way you will better understand where you stand and if there are any areas you need improvement. "Everyone there except me has another job and everyones getting the hours Im supposed to get!" Unfortunately that isn't how a business runs. Nobody cares what bills you have or if you have another job or not. It is not their fault or their problem that you only have one job while they have two.

8. stagewhisper (700) | 6 months ago | I agree with the previous poster who suggest you look for another job while you continue with this one... once you have a job offer, THEN you should quit. It's best to be prepared for the worst. Besides, then you'll have plenty of time to plan your announcement for resignation. And wouldn't that be satisfying? It'd be even better if you found a place who'd pay you more for the same kind of work- or easier work!

It appears that they are trying to force you to quit, that is why they are treating you so crappy. Yes it is unfair but when you're working for idiots who have power, then this is the result. I wouldn't even waste my time talking to the manager, she know she is mistreating you and for you to "complain" about it is only going to give her a reason to treat you even more crappy. If you quit you'll have a problem getting unemployment benefits even if there is still such a thing. My further advice to you is while you're still young, be looking into making money for yourself, doing your own thing. That way you'll have more control your financial future. Hang in there, be strong and handle your business. That woman is going to get her's. Karma is a beautiful thing.
