Ok so a couple of weeks ago I was out and about helping a friend run her errands. We pulled in to food lion and parked. While my friend went into the store we waited in the car. We kept hearing this dog barking and wondered where it was coming from when this guy walked up to the car (I actually knew him cause he was an older gentleman who used to come into the cafe I used to work at) and started talking about the dog. This man said the car with the dog in it was there in the blazing sun in a car since before he got there and started his shopping over an hour ago, at this point we had been there for 20 minutes. We borrowed his cell phone (we did not have ours with us) and called 911 and alerted them to the situation. This is Florida people it is hot. It was 90+ degrees that day. The dog had been in the car a minimum of one hour and 20 minutes with one cracked window. No shade no nothing. It was horrible. Would you have called 911?

It is not right to leave a dog in the car for that long of a period, especially if it is really hot,and the dog has only one window for air,and no shade, and I would have called 911 in a heartbeat and told them about it, then I would have found out whose car it was,and I would have told them off, because to me that should be considered animal cruelty.

It would have been very difficult for the dog to have been there for that long. I remember a similar incident that happened to my dog (she was then about three months old). I had to pay some bills and I left my dog in the car. It was kinda humid that day. Since the bank wouldn't allow me to bring my dog in with me, I left her in the car. I had to queue and it took forever before I was able to reach the counter. When I went back to the car, my dog was already panting. I really felt guilty for leaving her there. Unfortunately, I didn't have any choice then. Anyway, with regards to your question, I am not sure whether I would call 911 immediately but I would surely do something about it. Maybe look for the owner but if I can't see him/her anywhere, I would probably call 911!

Well we were there for a total of 30 minutes and the gentleman we were talking to said the dog and car were there when he had arrived at the store and he had been in the store atleast an hour. I think it is cruel to leave a dog in a hot car like that, I understand that you didn't mean to but this was a different case and the dog was there a long time.

I have never understood why any one takes their dog to do errands. I can see taking a dog with you to the park or an outing but other wise dogs should be left at home. You may only intend t be in a store or bank for a couple of min but it can turn into hours when there are more people in front of you than you expected. It's not worth cooking a dogs brain. I was at a store one day and when I finished what I was doing and got to my car I saw a baby in a car seat in the car across from me with no one around. I went right back into the store and reported it. I didn't have a cell phone or I would have called the police right then. The manager called out over the PA system asking the parent to please come to the front desk. The manager wanted to give her time to get out to her kid. I think it took her 20 min to come get her stuff paid for and go out to her car. It wasn't really hot that day but Still to warm to leave a baby in the car. I should have ask to use the phone. next time I will call 911 myself. In my opinion you did the right thing.

I dont think i would have called 911,but rather the local animal controll. but it would have been veary sad for somthing to happen to that dog:(... people just dont think about things like that... i would never take my dog along with me if i knew i was ganna be in there shopping for a long period of time
no matter how hot it is.
but i always thought it wasnt aginst the law as long as you had a window rolled down so i dont know..i wonder what happend.

I would have called too. I feel like sometimes people just have a pet, but don't really consider that it is a living breathing creature of the earth. When we have to care for another human being or a pet, we have to think outside of ourselves a little bit. Just because we may like or dislike something doesn't mean our pets would like it. What I am basically trying to say is that if we couldn't sit in the car for that period of time with very little air, and not water, then we should show our loyal companions respect and treat them how we would want to be treated.

I think you did the right thing, although i probably would not have called 911 rather the RSPCA.

I would have called.it is ridiculous to take a dog with you and leave it in the car.It cant just get out into shade whenever it wants since it cant do that if its hot.I can understand if you are taking it to the park, visiting someone and taking it with you when you visit the person outside of the car,or to the vet.But other than that a dog or any pet for that matter shouldnt be brought along just to suffer and be hot and possibly die from heat stroke. It has fur and people should realize that. But I guess some people are stupid and dont understand that.It makes me mad when I see dogs left alone in the vehicle.

Yes I think I'd have done as you did and called for some help. Dogs die easily in hot cars, but at least if this one was still barking it was still OK.
When we have to take our dogs out and it's hot we tie them to the tow bar and they can go lie underneath if they want.

Pity to the little dog. If the human was in the car for 1 hour, I think the human will die. The dog also has life, I hope the dog will be fine at last.
If me, I'm not sure what should I do, i think I may call for 911 if there's no idea at all. But Malaysia seems have no 911, so I think can call the police officers. But will the police officers help? I'm not sure about that.

I definitely would have called. I've lived in Florida and I know how hot it gets! No one should ever leave an animal (or a child!) in a car there. If it's 85 degrees outside, it can quickly get to 120 degrees inside! You did the right thing.

I think it is so terrible for this dog and ask the 911 to help the dog!
The life is the important thing ,in despite of the people or other animal!
