Economic Stimulus Check

I have great news received a big check today of $1200. This is more than I thought we would receive, as several people have told me they received a lot less. My husband and I have jobs, so we did have income. Some will be spend on a Wii, so will help the economy a little. How did you spend the economic check? Did you receive the right amount? If you haven't received it, then how will you spend the money? Will it be for food, house payment, college expenses,or a short trip? I hope everyone gets their check.

I am very disappointed in mine. On the IRS web sight I calculated mine and said $1200. I recieved $900. My son got a letter aying he would get a check so I did not question. He never got a check and after 4 hours on hold, being disconnected, and a very rude agent hanging up on me I finally got an agent to explain. I did not recieve for my son as he is over 16. He did not get one, even though he worked a little and file because I claimed him on my taxes. The leaves quite a few young people out. A way for the government to save money. The way they have done things is very wrong.

Wow, that's nice. Every American gets one of these? I thought the US economy was in bad shape, how can they afford it? I wish I lived there so I could get a nice big fat cheque.

Every American won't get one. Many people with part time jobs will fall below the amount you must make to get one. I barely made the amount. The government is trying to get people spending, but many of us will use it to pay bills and in some cases pay the IRS. My brother is using it to pay Uncle Sam aka IRS.

What's an economic stimulus check? It's really interesting but I've never heard of it before. You're very lucky to get it I guess. Maybe you can celebrate but make sure to keep it simple. Times are really hard nowadays so you should save at least 60% of the cheque for those rainy days. :) I'd love to have a Wii it's fun to play with friends and family.

Our house being added onto - This is our house and the addition. We are doing everything ourselves to save on labor....
We received our stimulus check a few weeks ago. We used it for building materials on our house that we're adding onto. Right now our children are sharing the upstairs loft and we're adding on a couple bedrooms and a living room. It is so needed because our house is really small before the add on.

We got ours a few weeks ago, the whole thing pretty much went to bills. Which is where we figured it would go. But it actually came in really handy cause the bills we spent it on were double bills because we just moved so we had bills from our old place and new place coming in at the same time, otherwise our bank account would be sitting at a nice fat $0.00. Of the $1800 I think we might have $300 left over.

I'm in SC and our job outlook isn't much better. If it hasn't been outsourced overseas it has been insourced from illegals (who ironically all claim to come from NC LOL). My husband was forced to basically reinvent himself because they completely took over the construction industry he worked in for more than 2 decades (ugly words added here). What can you do? I know what we did didn't do any good cause not a soul wanted to hear about it, it all comes down to money and where we fit in isn't even an afterthought in the minds of the ones calling the shots.

I know times are hard for many of us. The bad part it has been getting worse in my area. I have a part time job now, as the better paying jobs are all part time here. Good luck to both of you and hope it gets better soon.

I don't qualify for me. It seems that most people here in North Carolina will be spending theirs just to catch up on bills. Our jobs around here are being sent over seas so fast we all might end up flipping burgers soon! Oh, I am in the Piedmont area and furniture used to be the big "job" market around here.

My husband and I didn't receive ours yet, but we did receive a notice in the mail the other day that we should receive it within the next few days. I sure hope it is for the right amount as we plan on using most of it, if not all of it, for my car to be repaired. Though with the way things are going with the economy my husband and I will probably use it to live on instead.

Sorry to hear about your car expenses. We used the one sent out many years ago for car repairs. It was painful to spend it that way. Thanks for the reply.

I don't like the thought of having to spend it on car repairs, but it would be a more painful way if my husband and I have to use this money for living expenses. Hopefully it won't resort to that as I really need my car back.

We on a much needed vacation with our earnings. We went to the Grand Canyon and Laughlin Nevada. We spend 4 nights in Airzona and 2 ningts in Laughlin. We did not win any money gambling but had fun anyway. I got to swim in the hotel pool all by my self no one was in the pool. I was going to do my laps in the adult pool which was crowded but when I walked through the family pool area it was empty. Yoohoo I stayed and did my laps all by my load some. I loved the Grand Canyon we had never been. I loved seeing the foliage and the deep hole in the ground. I got to talk to some American Indians and ask them questions about their tribes. I was happy traveling with my hubby and grown daughter.

Cotton wood look out - Cottonwood look out on the way to Sedona Az
Here is a photo of a mountain range from the Cottonwood lookout. It it looking down into Sedona AZ. You cannot see the city because it is hidden behind the mountains. We where driving along the road and saw this lookout spot. My daugher said "Mom do you want to take a couple of photos?" So we stopped and I got out of the car. I was walking around and saw a medow and was wondering why all these people where stoped here. I then walked across the parking lot and found the lookout point which we did not know was there. It was so beautiful. I went back to the car and made my daugherter and husband get out of the car.

I just turned 18 in June, and I had to do taxes this year, so i hope I'll get a check, lol. xD If I do get one, I will give some to my mom, to help out with bills and stuff, put some in savings and spend the rest on clothes and food or something. xD

I'm hoping our daughter will get one also. She has only filed one year. We received a notice that we were receiving something. Thanks for the reply.

They confiscated mine, because I owe for last year's taxes. Oh well, it helps pay it off a little bit!

That is painful to see the IRS just take money. Each year they want more from us in April. Its sad knowing big companies can find loopholes to keep their money and the rest of us pay out a lot. Thanks for the reply.

well the checks are based on mainly your filing status. a single person gets 600. and if you have kids you get $300 for each child. and if you are married then you of course it is a joint check but if you break it down then you get $600 a piece. i got mine in may and i just paid off some bills with mine.

My husband and I did ot receive one because I am not an American, and I do not have a social security umber, and we filed joinly. That really sucks. We were penalized for behing honest. I hate that we were screwed because some illegal immigrants screwed things up for us. I have an American Tax ID number, so that should be good enough, but for some reason it is not.

Mine should be at my house today! Or so I hope--- :) I've been waiting patiently. I got the letter that said around the 11th- I am not 100% sure what I will do with it yet... I'm thinking a mini vacation and then school clothes and shopping :) I'm not sure. I'm working another site as well as this one- and making some good cash- this is going to the vacation too- so I'm not sure. I might just put it in my savings account- or pay off a bill. Glad you got yours :)

It took forever but we finally received ours. We used it to pay off or pay down a lot of the little bills. I enjoyed paying off things so they are not weighing on my mind anymore. Quite frankly, it was not enough to take care of everything. But a little relief is better than none.
