or,i should say, foul tasting medicine. what is the worst tasting medicine you've had the misfortune to take? my candidates are: nyquil (you have to be sick to take this.it's awful) ex-prep(for surgery-think liquid prune, concentrated) castor oil (grandma's idea.thank you dad for stopping her) and the calcium my mom takes.gives you farts like old moldy dust.

The most foul tasting medicine I was asked to take was an antibiotic that was sort of syrupy (I don't know the name) but it was really foul because the medicine was sooo thick plus it was grainy and what was worse, the strawberry flavor tasted more like expired strawberry that's been stuck for a hundred years and it was sooo bitter. I could hardly take it. I remember gagging and trying to keep it down so that I wouldn't throw it all back up. Whew. Talk about disgusting...

Hi scarlet_woman. My most unfortunate to meet of medications has had to have to been Codeine, Paracetamol and probably the other is Nurofen or else it must be my new medication formerly called Methotrimeprazine now called Levomeprazine even if it is only small. Catch ya later pretty_babe

There is no contest in my mind, and I've had a lot of yucky medicine. When I was a kid I was anemic, and they made me take liquid iron medicine. It was like drinking liquified iron. My mom would give me bubblegum afterward to try to ward off the taste, but it would stay with me. And then, and I know it is gross, I would burp up the taste for entire day following.

"and the calcium my mom takes.gives you farts like old moldy dust." Ewww. Now that's just gross! LOL I hardly ever take medicine, but I did take some really disgusting stuff years ago after my husband convinced me to. I took one sip of it and that was enough for me! I couldn't handle taking more...even if I was sick. So, what was the stuff that I couldn't stand? It was Alka Seltzer. Happy mylotting!

Wow, I didn't realize you posted this 2 years ago! (I just quickly read one of your happy happy yay cute adorble replies to somebody who was feeling down, about you rbeign so happy having adopted a kitty! Cognrats! Goodness, they bring such joy into our lives. Anyway, the med I hated, darn, I cant' remember the name of it, but when I was a teenager, I was on a lot of high dose meds aas kidneys were failing. I always remember one of the grossest, yucky meds I took, I forget name, but I use to have to drink the entire styrofoam cup of it. Docs and nurses always recommended beforehand to hold my nose when downing as it would help the taste from being so strong. It was like the thickness of the thickest muddy slabs mixed in water, but had even worse taste than mud! I am thankful I haven't taken it for many years. :o)

Doh, I typed out a reply, and then forgot how you have to continually sign in. So, it made my reply disappear. Ugh ugh. Anyway, wanted to say, berium I remember taking, though I don't think it was that one I am talking about. I do rememebr several of the times was in the dialysis bed. Prednisone, more familiar with people, is also so disgusting tasting if you have it pill form with tongue touching, but I haven't for so long like that. I always have it put into gel caps to hide the smell. Thank goodness to gel caps! :o)

Seriously, there are some Bad tasting medications out there that when taken they leave a foul taste in your mouth, or the after effects are worse for sure. I hate some of the ones that leave you burping up a foul odor to where it smells like rotten eggs or the ones that just you have to drink something right after to take away the foul taste. Many antibiotics for some reason are like this.

YECH!!! Ever taken BIAXIN? I had an infection in my finger, and a bladder infection and my doctor thought to get rid of them both at once, he'd give me that nasty $h!t. YECH!!!!!!!!!!!! That stuff was totally awful. It was OK going down, but the taste in my mouth was like molton metal. And if I drank a certain kind of bottled water, also very metalic in taste, it was even worse! I ended up buying a bottle of hot sauce and DRINKING IT to cover the taste. YUCKY!!!

WOW.if you have to drink that to cover the taste, that's pretty bad. i don't think i had that, but i had a bad bladder infection as a kid that medicine changed the color of my pee...and warning me would have been nice.

Good discussion! I'm sorry I can't remember the name of this alleged medication, and I'd like to apologise for not warning kids or their parents who may be about to discover how nasty this stuff is,assuming it's still on the market(I think I may have succeded in repressing the memory!) but it was a sickly orange flavour and colour and it made me heave! every so often I'll get a whiff of something orangey that brings it all horribly back...

that sounds familiar..can't remember the name though. i've noticed supposedly orange flavored meds as a whole seem to be nasty.

The absolute worse was a cough syrup called Mucinex...you buy it over the counter and it's supposed to be as strong as the prescription stuff you get for pnemonia...IT IS VILE!! It actually tasted so bad that it made me vomit...not good when you're already desperately sick. To give you an idea, take the gunk that collects in your tub drain, mix in some moldy, slimy rotting meat juice and top it off with some pond scum...give it a couple of drops of grape flavoring and you have this stuff. It is truely disgusting. I bought it, took it once and it became buried in the fridge...I still haven't found and am not looking for it. I'd rather be at deaths door than take that stuff again. man..you exchange grape for fig/prune and you've got ex-prep. that has to be THE foulest thing i've ever had to ingest in my life. had to hold my nose just not to hurl from the smell.

I've always been rather rail thin..LOL. My mother used to tell me that I must have taken after my father's side of the family since they could eat a whole cow at every meal and not gain weight...so when I was a kid she took me to the docs to get medicine that would help me GAIN weight....uh, wonder it there was a jealousy thing going with her since she was the opposite..she would gain weight just by looking at food. Anyway, so the doc prescribed this liquid medication...it was a sickly looking pukey green....and yikes tasted like it too, either that or monkey pee. Oh and as a btw....nope I only gained a little bit of weight with it...my doc just chaulked it up to having a fast metabolism and burned calories fast

Hi. scarlet_woman. When I was a preteen I used to take this burgundy pill that was made to grow my hair back. Well this pill was very foul and nasty in tasting. I did not swallow this pill as much, I used to chew it up. I was so terrified of swallowing a pill, so you could only imagine how I may have felt. I thought that I was going to throw up when I tasted this pill for my own self. It was very dreadful in its taste. NyQuil is another medicine that I can't stand to take either. It would be really nice if they invented fruity flavors of NyQuil. I would love to take it then.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice - Cranberry juice
Oh, I thought after reading the title that this was going to be a contest to name a Bon Jovi song.:) I can't stand anything that has cherry in it so that right off the bat would make me puke. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. I've had castor oil, once. I did have to drink cranberry juice for a UTI, now I can't even walk past the stuff without shuttering. Calcium gives you gas huh? Well, at least it cleans out the dust.
