If You Were Given One Hour To Grab Items For Free At The Supermarket... |
|
Remember the old TV gameshow "Supermarket Sweep"? Till this day, I don't see how ANYBODY could lose that contest, and I'll guess it's because I have a natural calculator for groceries and what what they cost in my head... Well anyways, I used to dream (Still do) about being let loose in my favorite Supermarket or boxstore for an hour to grab whatever I wanted for free!:) I have a feeling that I could easily walk out of there with at least $5000.00 worth of goods, especially with prices the way they are these days! That's probably the average cost of six months groceries and the gasoline to haul them home! I'm just kidding here of course, but I'm beginning to wonder where these price increases will end all the same. Now back to my Foodie Fantasy Question... If you had just one hour to shop as fast as you could and grab as many items as you wanted for free at your favorite Supermarket or Boxstore (Like Aldi's or Costco) How would you do? Here's a few numbered choices to help you start your answers: 1. I'd Hurt 'em, because I am a Shopping Tornado and... 2. I'd grab only durable goods and no treats because... 3. I'd stock up on all the luxury items that I could get because... 4. I'd probably just get a lot of the same items that I do in my normal shopping because... 5. I'd probably get scared and confused and really blow it because... 6. I'd have to bring one of my relatives to make all of my choices for me because... Your answers should be as much fun as possible, and of course the more detailed the better!:) Here's an expenses tracker for all of you brave and funny folks out there: http://www.expensestrackr.com And a link to my blog, where you can play the "Millionaire " game for free! No log in required, just dust off your trivia mid and play! http://www.apsense.com/subject/30633.html Have BIG FUN with this one!:)

1. cream97 (3516) | 3 months ago | I would grab all of the household products that I can think of..

| |
|
|
peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | Wow! Are you in the cleaning business? It probably wouldn't occur to me to do that, but does make sense all the same... Household products are among the most expensive items, and they are also the items that folks always seem to run out of, next to prersonal care items... Did you notice that toilet tissue rolls are either shrinking or becoming more costly?

peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | It surely would be a big advantage if you know where everything is located... I like chocolate bars, but carrying home 4 shopping carts full of them might now be such a good idea... I have to walk past a diet clinic, and the Big Folks there might get a bit riled up...:)

3. ebsharer (1985) | 3 months ago | I think I would go for meat first as that is the most expensive. I am a fast shopper to begin with so I can just imagine what I could do in a hour of FREE. I would also go for the medicene type of stuff too.

4. sunshine4 (4245) | 3 months ago | I would grab laundry soaps, bar soap, shampoos, then run to the meats and get enough to fill my freezers. Then I would go to the canned goods and cereals and stock up. I would stay away from anything that could get stale or spoil.

peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | That a good combo of Durable or Storable items, and Personal Care, as well as Household stuff... Pretty good and practical. I'll bet that you have a good supply of these items on hand, and that your kids probably bug you to buy more "Fun..." stuff!:) Don't listen to 'em... LOL!:)

5. latriciajones (621) | 3 months ago | i would probably grab the same things that i getwhen i do my normal shopping becuase i can get in and out of the grocery store with everything on my list in less than an our. now if i were in a store like walmart i would start in the electronics section and get a couple tvs, stereos, dvd player. i wouldnt be greedy i would just get things that i need to buy for my new place. i would also go stock up on things for my baby, and hygeine items as well as houssehold cleaners, and if i have a couple of minutes i would hit up the toy aisle for my kids. i think i would have to take two other people with me.

LOL!:) By the way, since I'm a guy, I'm wondering where are the Mylot males are with this discussion...

6. patgalca (5072) | 3 months ago | As much as I'd be tempted to go for the produce and dairy departments, those items will expire quickly and can't be frozen. Too bad because those are the more expensive items and the things I eat most - eggs, yogurt, fruit. But my family goes through a lot of cereal (not me). I would get cereals, probably laundry and cleaning products, meats of course, and then anything already frozen like pizzas, fruit punches, pre-cooked meals or meats (burgers, meatballs, lasagna), and breads. Unfortunately I don't think I have the space to store all this stuff. I wouldn't think they would give you a whole hour to do this kind of a game show prize... more like ten minutes. If they gave me an hour to dash around the store I would probably need to juggle several shopping carts.

|
peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | You would make out better at a boxstore, Pat!:) You could then get a freezer or two for your vittles, or move to Edmonton, which has it's own built in freezer! LOL!:)

peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | 10 minutes at the right store could do it, if you are quick and decisive, this feature however seems to be missing in a lit of the shoppers around here... Have you ever been on queue in the supermarket when a persons gets their trun at the register, and they have to go back to the shelves in the middle of checking out to get an item that they forgot? They'd fail at this game! LOL!

7. snowy22315 (4745) | 3 months ago | Yeah, I'd go with 3. I'd pick up the stuff I would normally bypass like theKing crab legs and the t bone steaks and fill my cart. I also get alot of premade goodies so I didnt have to cook all the time, plus other seafood and luxury items. That would be cool. I'm not sure if you could get 5,000 at Aldis, but you certainly could at Costco, you can spend 200.00 in there without batting an eyelash.

|
peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | The thing about Costco is that the sheer number of goods you can buy is staggering!:) Funiture, Appliances, Clothing.... If I had an hour in Costco to grab whatever I wanted for free, I get some big ticket items and re-sell them for a profit. I'd try to turn my good fortune into a business, as usual!:)

10. bmorehouse1 (382) | 3 months ago | I loved Supermarket Sweep! I always wished I could be on that show! If I had an hour at my local supermarket - not WalMart, but a food store, my strategy would be to start at the first aisle and going from aisle to aisle picking out the most expensive items. It wouldn't take long in the first couple of aisles at my local store since it is mostly canned goods. My main goal would be soda pop, MEAT, laundry detergent, as well as other cleaning products. Also items such as health and beauty products, frozen foods and candy. I'm sure there would be other things as I went up and down the aisles, but wouldn't it be fun!
| |
| |
|
|
peaceful (1787) | 3 months ago | It sure would be fun!:) I'm not a big fan on Walmart either, but let me in to a Fresh Grocer or Chef's Market, and I'm right at home!:) I'd grab enough gourmet stuff to create contest recipes for the next two years! LOL!
