Robbery over a cup of tea...

A Japanese woman and her six-month-old baby safely escaped from an armed robber with a cup of tea and a chat.
Police said a man pulled a knife on the 30-year-old housewife in the hallway outside her Tokyo apartment, forcing his way into her home and demanding money.
Instead of screaming she served tea, with the robber putting the knife away and telling his story. The woman put a 10,000 yen (£47) note in a wallet on the table, grabbed her daughter and ran out the door to call police. When she returned, the man had disappeared with the money.
Its amazing how she stayed so calm and braved about how she did this. Obviously she was concerned about her daughter's safety and her own.
What would you have done if it was you???

Wow that is amazing, I doubt I'd be able to be so calm in that situation. I'm glad she escaped unharmed, it sounds like the robber was desperate and wasn't really going to harm her. Doesn't make it any less scary though...

It is an amazing story and makes you wonder how many people would stay calm in situations like this!! I think the robber was desperate and didn't want to harm her but it would have been mega scary!!!

Oh my, cinderella2007, I don't have a clue what I would have done. I admire this woman's bravery! She is as smart as she is brave. The 10,000 yen along with her tea and conversation most likely prevented the robber from going after her. I most likely would have panicked.

Certainly, she was being smart.
I can imagine that she feared for her
life and the baby's life too.
Often panic is not the right reaction.
But since she was in the hallway in a public
place, I would have screamed my head off.
Of course, I live in America, so usually if someone
breaks into your home, they intend massive bodily
damage and won't settle for a cup of tea.
Guess things are different over there.
Nice to hear, things worked out for her and the baby.

Reading things like this absolutely terrify me, I really do not know what I would do if I was in this situation, I really don't. I only hope, hope, and hope that this never happens to me or my family, and it really is something I worry about more and more these days.
That poor woman must have been terrified, both for herself and her little baby and I am so glad that she managed to get away.

I think if I would have served him hot tea he would be needing an eye doctor right now! And, a doctor for the lump on his head from the tea pot. The police would have had a full description with blood sample to boot.

I'm a little confused with her actions. Was she trying to protect herself or be sympathetic or both ? And after she served the tea, why did she leave the note in the purse and go out to yell ? She could have gone and done that without leaving the note.
Any way it's easy to comment on someone' action I guess. Theimportant thing is she got both her daughter and herself to safety which is the important thing. Had I been in her shoes ,that would have been the first thing on my mind as well.
