Those new designer dog breeds

Our dogs are deople - dogs who consider themselves to be people.

The idea of mixed breeding was designed to chase out the bad part of the full breed, some have common disorders that come with the breed. It works well and most of these breeds show all the good qualities of the mixes.
I have had an airdoodle (at that time it was an "oops"), he was one of the best dogs I have had. Even the vet could not decide to write his breed down as poodle or airdale. He had the airdale looks, but the poodle hair.
I now have what is called a designer dog; a chi-aps, very stubborn, but loving.

I am not sure if mutt is politically correct. But I think a mutt is really a dog of many-many usually unknown breeds.

I think many of these have possibility but the breeding must be done by people who are experts not backyard breeders.

One of my dogs fathers was dead about 5 years before he was born, his sperm were frozen in a lab. I was told at this place where his sperm was that they were one of the most advanced cryogenic labs in the country. They also did many genetic studies and they still had problems. My dog produced wonderful puppies, great temperament but he had skin problems which he passed on to his progeny. He was removed from the breeding program.

It takes many generations to develop a reliable standard for breed dogs and one must be careful of inbreeding too.

I agree 100% I am a dog lover and most dogs and puppies are very cute. I think in our society it is also a way of people saying that my mine is made just for me.

Whoa that is scary, I would think that mating unrelated dogs would not result in a litter of aggressive pups. I knew that it came from bad breeding, usually breeding dogs that were too closely related but of a different breed.

Just goes to show, we should leave it to the experts.

That is the way it is with some of the dogs, but the characteristics are not always the same. It depends on which is the dominant gene in that pup. I have seen the pup that you are talking about, it was cute but there were 2 pups in the litter that did not come close to resembling the other pups.

You are right, the dog shelters and rescue societies have tons of wonderful dogs just waiting to be adopted.

That is so true, to have a pedigree dog really does not mean much, I have had dogs that were AKC registered that did not meet the standards. I had a female Doberman, who was registered with papers that weighted in at 120 pounds, she was not overweight, but she was AKC registered.

Breeding should be left to the pros.

Most dogs are wonderful companions if they are brought up that way. I would not have a dog at all if these were not free.

They are pure breed, I have seen their lines going back 15 or so generations, but neither is registered with the AKC>

Actually, breeding a dog for certain characteristics is a good thing when done properly.

The animals that you spoke of were bred for that trait and no one thought of the long term ramifications of that trait.

Could you then explain to me how breeding animals for certain traits is a good thing?

Well imagine breeding a breed of dog that is hardy and dedicated, low maintenance fur with exceptional sniffing ability...alas a great rescue dog.

That is a good thing to breed into a dog.

I guess I can see your point. My worry is what if the breeding goes wrong and you create so animal with a problem? The animal will probably just be put down.

I just really don't agree with breeding of most dogs. But I can respect your opinion and agree to disagree.
