Is your best friend more like a sister?

My best friend is more like a mom or an aunt. She is older than me, and actually has a child my age, but oddly enough we're the best of friends. She can be a bit maternal sometimes with me and my kids, but at the same time she doesn't try to tell me how to run my life. She teaches me things on a daily basis, mostly because I constantly go to her for advice on just about everything from cooking to doing my hair and nails.

It would be pretty hard for my best friend to be just like a sister, since he is male! haha He's a little too old to be just like a brother, and it would be kinda sick if I said he was like a father (no way, don't EVEN go tere!!!), but whatever he is, he's something special to me with a role of his own, unlike anything else.

I'm not super close with family so I'd have to say yes. I have lots of friends that I am not best friends with.
But like you mean no.I have friends that I am way closer to than I have ever been to family. Sad but very true.

Yes, I had a very good friend who was just like a sister to me. I just miss her a lot because she lives in the U.S. now being a nurse. I am quite sad about our friendship because she suddenly lost contact with me. She used to send me letters & cards before especially on special occasions and vice versa, but for a year now she kinda MIA (missing in action) in our long distance friendship. I never stopped sending her cards and photos though because she is the godmother of my youngest child.


It is her birthday today and I'm so happy that you give me the chance to open up the topic thru your post. I really miss her a lot (Joan), and I hope I just could hear from her once again. I don't know if I'll continue sending her stuffs because I'm a little bit confused: whether she still considers me as a good friend or not anymore (but this is for no reason at all!) I didn't send her letters anymore, only pictures of her god-daughter just to keep us in touch, in some way.


What I learn from our friendship is the fact that it's so difficult to let go of a very dear friend especially if she's gone...

ABSOLUTELY YES! We've been BESTFRIENDS since pre-school days and almost 20 yrs later we still are. We are more than friends and be considerd more like BLOOD BROTHERS! We share a lot in common but we still compliment with each others differences. The lesson I've learn from him is... BELIEVING IN MYSELF! Having confidence. I used to be timid and shy, can never say what my mind wants to say... but HE BELIEVES IN ME... and told me something which I could never forget! "NO ONE WILL EVER BELIEVE IN YOU... If you will not start believing in YOURSELF first... I may not be always here pushing you forward, better start pulling yourself up!" I am now the extreme opposite of ME BEFORE! Thanks to him.

I have a best friend way back in high school. We laugh together, cry together, we share almost everything we have. She's more like a big sister to me than my real sister. She was a year older than me. And I really thank her for being the bridge for me and my husband to meet. I married her younger brother.
But I have this BOF (best online friend) who've become like a big brother to me (hey my BOF don't get mad.LOL). We've become open to each other. Every night we see to it that we talk. We share each others happiness and ups and downs.

For me my best friend is just like my sister.She has more paitence to listen to my words.She even teached me computer when i don't know it.Sometimes i go in wrong direction she corrects me by saying the advantegous and disadvantegous of the things i do.The lesson i learnt from my friend is how to lead a systematic life which i can't forget till my last breath.

My best friends i wouldn't say much likea sisters or brothers but more like cousins they know more things about me then some of my brothers and sisters well most haha. I love my best Friends and there awesome so I think they are a little more then family there like undescrible people. That I love so much like gods gift to me a person that knows how to make me simile.. ^_^ thats what my friends mean to me,. haha

Yes I did have a best friend who was just like a sister to me. I met her in 1965 when my oldest son was only six weeks old. We hit it off immediately. Our husbands worked together.

We raised our kids together. We went on vacations together, celebrated birthdays and holidays together; her family and mine. We shopped together and shared our deepest darkest secrets, as well as our joy.

In 1981 she called me wanting me to go to the hospital with her, and be there for the birth of her grandchild.

On our way, we were hit head on by a drunk driver. It did severe damage to her,especially to her face. She lost her right eye and she lost a portion of her brain.

Although she finally got better and was able to return home; she was never the same person. We were still friends but she was just unable to have any kind of close relationship with anyone. She was such a brave woman though.

She passed away last month, June, 26 and I am so sad that my friend is gone and that we didn't get to have the close relationship that we had previously enjoyed. But we were still good friends. We still had a good realationship, as good as she was able to give anymore.

The greatest lesson that I learned from her is that we have to make our own happiness. That we have to accept whatever we are dealt in life and still go forward. That's what she did. She made the best of her situation and was really very happy in spite of everything. I'm so glad that she was able to still find happiness even if it was at a different level than before the wreck. She was a great woman.
