Is your interest in frugality purely financial, or do you have other things that have lead you to it?

I've always been frugal..I get it from my dad. I like to save money, of course but I also like to not accumulate a bunch of stuff. I prefer to live more simply for peace of mind, for the environment, and for my pocketbook. :)

For me, I've had to become more frugal in the last two months out of financial necessity. I've not had allot of money coming into the bank account and so as a result of this, I have become more frugal. For example, I don't eat out as often as I have in the past and I walk more than taking a taxi or even public transport. Every penny counts when you are worried that you may not have much to live on. However, I think there have been other personal benefits. For example, because I walk more often, I get more exercise, which is good because I don't get allot of exercise opportunities in my daily life and the increase in walking time helps me benefit for my health. I also have found that I have learned to appreciate the simpler things in life. For one, I now do allot more reading, which is good for the brain. However, because I don't have the money to buy books, I use the library more often. It's like if you have a good library you should use it rather than let it go to waste. Another activity I do is to review books for magazines. I get to read and keep the book and my review in the magazine gets me publicity for the work that I do. People who adapt a more frugal lifestyle tend to develop a more disciplined and less wasteful mentality. It's like you learn to do more with less and that makes you more productive as a person. You look at how you can get more for the dollars you spend and you also find yourself looking at how you can maximise your daily activities.

maybe there are other reasons but the biggest reason is financial. i am a single mom and their dad is not giving anything so i need to be frugal. so i can buy more of what they need specially on what they need for school. we also pay the rent and a lot of bills so being frugal and spending wisely is what am i doing. i usually buy things first on sale rack or marked down items.

I don't really think that it's necessary of me to spend more money than I need to. If I can get something that is the same value for a lower price, I will do that. I believe in paying what is fair to pay, not paying what a greedy vendor asks.

I was raised to be frugal from a child so it just comes naturally for me. I is a way of life for us. We are very frugal and we try not to waste anything

At some point in most peoples life it pays to be frugal. There comes a time when everybody needs to keep a better handle on where there money is going. It could be unemployment or under employment but there becomes a necessisity to make your dollars stretch as far as you can. Others actually just enjoy the challenge of being frugal, and being able to stretch things out, and save money even though they may not necessarily need to. Some people like to combine being frugal with being green or recycling and re-using to save the environment. So why a lot of people do it for financial reasons, some do it for environmental reasons, and some do it as a challenge or a hobby.

It's about money as well as I'd like to claim frugality as "environmentally friendly". The less things you buy, the more you help out the environment. Overconsumption is one of the causes of a dirty and unbalanced earth.

It is financial, but also moral in the sense that we should not spend more money that we have. Everyone should learn to live within their means and not depend on credit.

Being frugal the past year or two has been purely financial. I've always been frugal in necessities so I could have money to spend on things I wanted. Even when I made a fairly decent living, I cut corners here to spend money there. Now it's getting harder and harder to find a corner to cut. About all I can do now is spend less money "there".
