How did you select the names of your kids? |
|
I have a son. When i was pregnant with him the day before my delivery me and hubby thought about names for our child. We did not know whether it would be a girl or a boy. But we would have loved to have a daughter then, though it does not matter much now.. So we came up with four or five girl names and thought of only one name for a boy... And that name was yusuf... Then my wonderful son was born and after that we downloaded scores of names from the internet and discussed for about a month and kept another name. But then we again changed it again and finally settled on yusuf.. Maybe we were too excited about our first baby. Now everyone of you would have a story about how you named your kids.. Please share it with us...

2. falconjetter (147) | 1 year ago | We knew the baby was a girl so my husband and I both made a list of names we liked. If any were the same we automatically kept them. Then we put the names together to make first and middle names and then asked family members for their opinions- end result: Emily Elizabeth and Sarah Adeline.

| pshiv29 (81) | 1 year ago | We have 2 kids... boy and girl... in my husband family, it's been tradition to name the first son after the father, so we did that with our son. most of his cousins have jr's for son's. We had a boy name and girl name picked out, just in case tho, both times. Then our daughter came, hubby wanted the initials to be S.A.S....lol. like in miss sassy or something. That was 20 yr's ago.

3. Adeliza1220 (320) | 1 year ago | I actually picked out my daughters 1st name way before i even knew she was going to be a girl. I was very exciting with it being my first child therefore i wanted to try to prepare myself in every aspect so i wouldn´t be doubting when it got to it so i bought 2 babyname books and looked through them. I had to look for a name that sounded right in spanish and in english so it was a little bit of a challenge. I also wanted something that came close to or at least a part of my grandmother´s name but wanted to start a new name. I started in the A´s and absolutely fell in love with the name Adeliza, which was a name put together by putting parts of Adeline and Liza. I looked through both books but once you like a certain name that is just it. I ended up giving her my other grandmother´s name but in english and Finally decided on Adeliza Rose

4. alori61 (232) | 1 year ago | In my family we have very few boys, so we have a tradition of passing down the name Katherine into each generation. The first was my great grandmother Katherine Rose, my grandmother was Katherine Caroline, my aunt Katherine JoAnn, my sister Katherine Elaine, and my daughter who I decided to go back to the beginning she is Katherine Rose after her great great grandmother. The other 5 kids we just picked for no reason.

naseeha (905) | 1 year ago | oh so many katherines!! Here in some villages they have a deity which is much revered and worshipped . So the eldest children in each family will be named after that deity and so there will be so many people who have the same names. Lol Wouldnt that be confusing???
| |
|
|
alori61 (232) | 1 year ago | Well our Katherines thus far have none gone by the same name my great grandmother went by Kate, my grandmother by Katherine, my aunt used her middle name JoAnn, my sister is Kathy, and my daughter is Kathy. I don't think it would be way to confusing if everyone had the same name. When I was in school it seemed like every little girl in my class was named Lori, there really were 7 of us and it was awful.

5. acevivx (705) | 1 year ago | I Have an only child a daughter and when she was born I already had a chosen name but for one reason or anoptjer the name didn't seem to fit and when i tried other names my brothers and sisters had a comment everytrime on the name. But I finally chose her name which i wanted to be unique from other names similar to it. So I came up with a spelling of the name which is indeed very uniques and tagged on another name which i always liked and wished as a name for my daughter as it mean beloved or sweetheart or some thing similar. So my daughter's name is really something I finally chose and made unique all for her. Her name is Eiris Mavourneen. I don't think anyone spells that name the same way i spelled hers.

7. jephone (101) | 1 year ago | I think it is very important to choose a suitable name for your kids. If you give the wrong name, that will give the kids a lot of trouble during the period they are growing up. For exemple, the other kids laught at your kids, If you give a rare name, the people don't recognize the word, they always say the wrong name. I suffered this for a long time. I have a friend which suffer a long name during his whole name. On his name, he has 2 first names which are mixed by french name and English name and 2 last names which are from his parents last name. He hates his name because of giving him a lot of trouble. I think the best name should be simple, easy to understand.

naseeha (905) | 1 year ago | thats a good insight. Yes the names which we select should not be long or difficult to pronounce or our children will be called by names that they do not like.. Hope my kid likes the name i chose for him

8. maximax8 (10875) | 1 year ago | When my first son was born his dad wanted to call him Fox, Raven or Rex. My family didn't like any of the names. So I bought a baby name book and my mum suggested the name Ryan. So we called our baby boy Ryan. Then before I had my next baby I began using the Internet so during my next pregnancy I looked at different names. I thought that the name Lorry would be lovely if we had a boy or Holly would be a great name if we had a girl. I had a second son but we couldn't agree on a name. His dad asked how about Teo? So I said how about Leo then? He liked that name so we called our baby boy Leo. His nick name is Leo the Lion and this suits him. One day I would dearly love to have a daughter and names I like are Holly, Amber or Lauren. However two names in our family beginning with 'L' it would be confusing. Yusuf sounds like a wonderful name.

9. SViswan (4201) | 1 year ago | Before my first son was born, after months of vetoing each other's choice of names, we zeroed in on a boy's name and a girl's name. Our first child was a boy and he was born on a special Indian festival...and we wanted a name that would signify the festival. Fortunately, we could do that by adding one more name to the name we had chosen....together it was the name of the God whose birthday it was...and he was named! The second one's name the older one chose which was the same meaning of his name.

|
naseeha (905) | 1 year ago | but you havent put down the name... I would have been able to understand since i too am from india...

|
|
SViswan (4201) | 1 year ago | oops...I'm sorry...I didn't realize you were from India. We had chosen Pranav for a boy's name before my older son was born. But he was born on Ganesh Chathurthi and Ganesh was a very common name which we didn't want to name our son....and we also wanted a name that would signify Ganesha. We got a suggestion of Pranavswaroop (Pranav means 'Om' and Pranavswaroop means in the shape of the Om which is another name for Lord Ganesha.....it also has a deeper philosophical meaning). So, our older son is Pranavswaroop. The younger one is Omkar...which is actually Om (same as Pranav) and aakar (similar to swaroop).
