Democrats plan second economic stimulus bill....can this really be true?  |

 Democrats controlling Congress ratcheted up expectations Tuesday for additional legislation to jump-start the dragging economy.
"We will be proceeding with another stimulus package," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said after meeting with several economists.
Pelosi said that recently issued tax rebate payments of $600 to individuals and $1,200 for married couples have helped the economy but that more is necessary to offset the drag of higher gasoline prices and other costs.
But President Bush cautioned in a White House press conference that lawmakers should "wait for the stimulus package to fully kick in" before passing another.
If this really does happens it would be awesome but I won't believe it until I see it! Do you think it will? If it does what will you do with your "new found money" this time?

| 3. pergammano (2020) | 1 year ago |  Morning, my friend.....what scares me about this (even tho' I live in Canada) it seems when the Gov't gives a hand-out with one-hand, the five fingers on the other hand are clawing it back from us, in ways that we don't really see! There is NOTHING free, from the Gov't! EXAMPLE: All British Columbians just received a $100.00 Climate Control Cheque! July 1st, B.C. Gov't added a 2.5 cent per Litre Carbon Tax to ALL Fuel (that's 11.4 cents per gallon) As if most of us could afford that MUCH added on to the already astronomical cost already! We already pay $7.45 a gallon.
I think our Gov't has it's proverbial nose up Bush's butt...cuz everything that he does affects our economy! I do not trust Government! Cheers...and have a rainbow day!

We are getting so many new fees and new taxes added in here and there it is crazy. We got $1800 and it was gone in no time because it went directly to bills that were all somehow due at the very moment the check came in. I basically spent it before I cashed it. | |

The best way to get the country back on it feet is to do something about the oil prices. got more oil wells here in our own country and get more refineries built. Even that will tke time but they could crack down on spectaculars. Let out aome of the oil that the government is holding in those reserves. A stimulus check may help in the short term but not the long term. Besides just where is that money coming from. The tax payers pocket come next year at tax time.

5.  anniepa (9276) | 1 year ago |  I won't believe it until I see it either, although I also heard that the Democrats are planning on proposing this. Unfortunately, no doubt Bush will veto it if they do get it passed and it would take a fair amount of GOP support to override the veto. Of course, with the election coming that may actually happen. I don't think these stimulus checks really help the economy a whole lot as a whole but they do help individuals and families get caught up on some bills which is a big deal if you're behind on your home heating bill or something like that with the predicted prices for this coming winter.

I had a discussion with friends and they said what they wanted is their jobs back.
They are in the same boat as me, jobs send to New Dehli, India. Keep the check, give me my job back and I won't need the check.
