William Petersen leaving "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" after nine-year run Petersen has agreed to return for occasional guest appearances New male investigator will join show; role has not yet been cast I love William Peterson. From the 1st time I saw Manhunter in 1986. I hope he will go back to movies. Does anyone else watch the original CSI? DO you think the Gil Grissom character will be missed? They are putting another actor into the lead, but haven't cast him yet. Hopefully it will be a good choice.

I saw that on yahoo news this morning. I have not watched CSI since last year. I used to watch it all of the time. I don't think the show will be the same without him. I hate it when after several years the characters on a show change. Most of the time it ruins the show for me.

I liked William Peterson from Manhunter, as you mentioned. He makes a very good investigator, too, for the CSI series. I like the original, but I don't make a lot of dedicated time for watching TV shows. It is nice that he will make guest appearances fromtime to time. I've also heard something about him being involved in producing the series, which might explain the change. It is hard to act and be neutral while producing the show.

Hard to think of a good replacement, with so many of the original cast leaving (assuming Warrick and Sara both stay "gone")so close together, I guess it is certain the tone of the show will change and the character interaction will be very different, too. At least, we will have the first ten episodes before his character is written out, according to what I have read.

Nope. I won't be watching CSI anymore. Grissom IS CSI. William Peterson IS Gil Grissom. I think he'll be sorely missed, and that the network will definitely lose viewers from this move. Remember when David Duchovny left X-Files? It doesn't even come on TV anymore, unless you pay extra for the higher channels, only to watch reruns! I think the same thing will happen here. I think it would be the same if ANY of the major characters left, but especially Grissom. Who's going to stop Eckley now? I seriously doubt that anyone can be as big a pr!ck, and yet at the same time so kind, as Grissom. Show doesn't have a prayer now.

Grissom is one of my favorite character on CSI. It won't be the same without him. I haven't watched the show in quite a while, because I can't get CBS to come in, but I used to always watch it. It's crazy they just lost the Sarah character and now Grissom, too. Atleast there are still a few of the older characters left.
