My Friends,Family, and Job all call Me on my Cellphone.I only really have a landline any more for my internet connection,as We don't have cable around here.
I have an answering machine hooked up so I can screen calls, and rarely does someone wait til the end of the recorded "Leave a Message" spiel before hanging up!
If it's so important to call why not leave a message? I do Pick up,but the majority of my landline calls now are "cold call" BS,hence the machine..
Do You Leave a Message when You get a machine on the other end,or get technophobic??
How do you feel about talking to a machine?

I get aggravated when people don't use the landline. I have limited minutes on my cell phone plan and can not afford to go over. People know I am home, yet the call the cell. Then if I think it will be a lengthy call I say I will call them back and of course they know why and then tell me to just get more minutes on my plan. I got my cell phone for my convenience not their's.
As for leaving a message, some message are time sensitive and leaving a message would not be worth the effort. And of course many people don't call back if you leave a message anyhow.

Hi ShepherdSpy. I wouldn't say that I hate answering machines...I just don't like them. LOL But that doesn't usually stop me from leaving a message on them, if I happen to get them, that is. There is at least one exception though. I don't usually leave a message when it comes to my mother's cell phone. But that is only because she doesn't know how to retrieve her messages from there. Why bother to leave a message if she's never going to hear it anyway? So, I hang up and try again later.
LOL

I'd forgotten about the technically challenged phone users, like their cousins that couldn't set a VCR back in the day,or personalise their cellphone ringtone so it didn't sound the same as a dozen OTHER phones around them!
But how difficult can it be to "Leave a message after the beep"?

I am like you, most of my calls come in through my cell phone. My grandma has a cell phone, but she gets calls on both. Personal on the cell, business on the house phone. Also we have an internet connection.
I don't like talking to a machine. I don't know why that is, but if it isn't something important, I won't leave a message. That goes for both landlines and cell phones. Usually when I am leaving a message, its a business call and I understand why the line is busy. Otherwise, for personal calls I will just call back.

Normally if I'm ringing anyone I do it from the landline phone as my mobile never has any credit on it!! And I've found out recently that when I'm making landline calls it seems to come up on everyone's phone as 'unknown number' so if I don't leave a message they wouldn't know it was me!! lol x

That's what bugs Me too...There's no message left, and if you try the "1471" (check last number that called) you get something like "The caller withheld their number"!

we used to have an answering machine but we never put the recording on... no body answers and they tend not to leave any message and simply hang up so we removed it.. i've never tried being answered by a machine before, but i think if its really important i would leave a message simply saying to talk me back..
happy mylotting!

The machine is there if I'm not available..I'm not going to be jumping out of the shower to answer the phone when it rings! A simple "Call back when you get this" would be enough in most cases. This week,I had monday and tuesday off,and was to start at 8 on Wednesday.I got to work on Wednesday morning, and the others on my shift asked Me "What are you doing here?"
The manager had reorganised the shifts after the weekend, and put Me in to start at 3pm that day instead, then claimed when I challenged him on not having let me know that He DID ring,He just hadn't left a message! Wasn't that the POINT of calling Me?!
