Which Colour To Choose Maroon Or Green? Carpet Decision - Your Advice Please |
|
If I tell you the colouring of everything else in the room will you please give me your own personal opinion as to which one you would choose for carpet and why? I need to decide by 11am Monday morning which one I am going to go for.
Right it is for the landing stairs and lounge together at present I have a very pale hint a tint of green on the walls with lots of green pot plants, I have light wood furniture and two double maroon leather sofas, the curatains are maroon with slated blinds in off white behind. The pictures on the walls are in pale pastel colours with different shades of green within them so would having a marron carpet make the room look too dark, it is a very large room or would the green carpet bring out the green more in the walls and the plants and compliment. I usually go for a natural colour carpet but fin they get stained too quickly especially with a little one in the house. Which colour would you choose based on the info I have given you from the two or would you choose something different entirely.

1. patriciaqualls (4606) | 1 year ago | Hello Ellie, I think I would put green carpet I think it will go good with the walls and show off the the maroon leather sofas. If you buy a maroon carpet it will pretty much just blend in with the couches. I am trying to picture how pretty that looks together. Sounds very nice to me good choice! And green will brighten up the room a lot more! Good luck with your choice. Let me know which one you decide on! Have a wonderful day. Patricia

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Patricia, thats what I was thinking too really both carpets are flecky rather than just bold colour, the green one is a lot lighter but they are both hardwearing and I have delibrately tramped dirt on them to see how easy they clean up and both are fine. I think I am being frawn to the green to enhance the colour on the walls and the marron curtains and sofas will link with each other then but it is a big decision and I want to get it right. I will let you know but I am being more drawn to the green myself. Ellie:D

2. gemini_rose (10121) | 1 year ago | Out of the two colours you have given I would go with the green, with the description of the room I would think that the green carpet would bring out the colours of the wood furniture and leather sofas and would go well with the pot plants and walls, the maroon colours would set off everything else with them being darker. I think that to have a maroon carpet would make it all seem dull and old fashioned as maroon is such a heavy colour.

|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Gemini_rose, I think that I am being drawn more towards the green myself especially as the curtains and sofas are dark. It is a light and airy room but I think the maroon would close it in a bit. I will let you know what I decide though and maybe post picure of finshed room. Oh I'm so ecited I have not had carpets since I moved here two and half years ago it will be luxury eh! Ellie:D

Scoop_Dogg (1934) | 1 year ago | You are obviously a carpetbagger, gemini_rose. It accounts for a lot you know.

|
gemini_rose (10121) | 1 year ago | Oh eck, what is a carpet bagger? Is it a bad thing?!
| |
|
|
Scoop_Dogg (1934) | 1 year ago | You would think it was someone who 'bags' carpets, but you'd be wrong.
Here in the UK, it was a term given to those who tried to force building societies to demutualise. Seems to have died off since the recent demise of the banking system.

3. novataylor (2141) | 1 year ago | I'd say go for the green, Ellie. Find a really beautiful shade of it, maybe pick up the shade from one of the pictures on the wall. I'm sure it will be beautiful, no matter what you choose.
But I think maroon will just be too dark, honestly. If you want a maroon-like shade, though, I'm sure you could find one in a lighter hue, Ellie. As long as it's not deep, dark, wine colored maroon, it could work. And that would look so good with all the green too. Ooops, now I've gone and said both would work, but they would, both green and maroon, as long as you keep the maroon a lighter hue. Hope this helps.

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Nova, The marron is a lighter hue but I think I am being drawn more to the green myself as I too think it will bring out all the different greens in the pictures too and the walls are really just a hint but will enhance that also. Perhaps with heavy sofas oh and pouffe and the full length maroon curtains marron carpet may be too much and too heavy. Thanks for advice. I will let you know which one I do end up going for though and maybe upload a pic too once it is all laid. Huggles. Ellie:D

5. wildplace (108) | 1 year ago | I would take the green one. I think that more maroon would make the whole room to dark. And of course with the dark carpet on the floor for me it would look like all other dark furniture has become bigger. And the green carpet would make the room itself look bigger and more friendly.
| |
| |
|
|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Wildplace, It is a paler shade of maroon but yes I am being drawn more to the green myself. I have both samples on the floor at the moment and it certainly does lift the colour from the walls and feel more comfortable. I will let you know what I choose. Ellie:D

7. skinnychick (3317) | 1 year ago | My first instinct when I saw this was green and after reading further, i'm sticking to it. Green sounds like it would be pretty!
| |
| |
|
|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Thanks skinnychick, I think it would be a more relaxing colour for me to have and will enhance the paleness of the walls and not look as dark and as heavy with the sofas and curtains. I will let you know what I choose though. Ellie:D

skinnychick (3317) | 1 year ago | Let me know. I bet whatever you choose will be lovely!
| |
|
|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Skinnychick, I didn't go for either colour in the end. I went with a dark beige fleck one so a neutral shade so no matter what the decor it will go with. Green would have been good but if I wanted to change the colour scheme in the future I would have been limited. Ellie:D

8. tamarafireheart (12523) | 1 year ago | Hi ellie,
I like the marron, it may make you room cosyer and warm but it might make look smaller and then again if you have the green it might make it a cooler and lighter but it might show more dirt so if I were you I would choose marron, let us know what colour you choiced in the end.
Love and Huggles
Tamara.

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Tamara, Well you are the first that has gone with the maroon the rest have gone with green, yes my question was the warmth factor too as the lounge is such a large space but I must admit I feel more relaxed around the green. I have the swatches on the floor at the moment so will see which one grows on me over the weekend and then make my choice. I will definitely let you know what I choose though. Huggles. Ellie:D

9. shintongs23 (394) | 1 year ago | I would suggest green carpet not because it is one of my favorite color. I think green carpet will fit the room since you have maroon colored sofas. The green color will contrast the maroon color of the curtain and sofa which will gave a light feeling to the person occupying the room. Too much maroon is very heavy in feeling since it is a dark color, unlike green which is also the color of health and nature. Have a nice day!
| |
| |
|
|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Shintongs, Yes I am definitely being drawn to the green even though I know it isn't everyones taste it will compliment like you say whereas maroon could make the room smaller and darker. I will let you know what I choose though. Ellie:D

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | I didn't go with either green or maroon in the end, I chose a dark beige fleck colour instead which is neutral and will go with any colour scheme really. Ellie:D

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Cyberfluff both the maroon and the green are lighter in shade rather than dark but I feel the green would go better. I have always gone with a natural beige neutral colour carpet before but with the little one feel I should get something a bit darker and hardwearing. I will let you know what I choose though. Ellie:D
| |
|
|
cyberfluf (2617) | 1 year ago | I'm sorry I most have overread the part of them being lighter than the furniture, I thought you were going for darker shades because maroon is dark type of purple isn't it? Not sure now though... I'll try and keep updated on the carpeting!
| |
|
|
ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Cyberfluff, I don't think I mentioned the dark or pale factor so no need to be sorry at all, I really appreciate your input as ever and I thank you. Ellie:D

ellie333 (6792) | 1 year ago | Hi Cyberfluf, I went with a neutral dark beige fleck one in the end not maroon or green LOL, that way if I change the decor it will go with anything. Ellie:D
