What Do You Do if You Have to Wait for Something for a Long Time?

Say you are at airport and waiting for the next plane or you are supposed to meet someone but he/ she is accidentally late. There might be a few hours gap in between and usually what would you do? For me, the most painful time would be a layover at the airport. One time I spent 7 hours waiting and I was bored to death. I had to alternate from reading magazines, listening to iPod and playing NDS. What about you?

hi wonderice! i'd be playing games with my cellphone or exchanging sms messages with someone if i had to wait that long for someone who was accidentally late. if there was magazines around i'd be reading them. if i get bored from doing these things, i'd be observing people. but if i know beforehand that i'd be waiting that long, i would have brought a book so i can read and entertain myself while waiting.

I've never had a layover at an airport. I INSIST ON DIRECT FLIGHTS!!! I did have a layover at a bus terminal once. I wanted to go home via Toronto, but Dad insisted I go via Hamilton. I got to Hamilton terminal, and discovered it was dull as freaking tombs in there, so I cashed in the rest of my ticket, and went to toronto anyway. I just didn't feel like waiting. It cost more, but I had a good time. I would have to get a bus back home anyway, and since tht wasn't going to happen anytime soon I thought I might as well just get a bus somewhere else, and the bus via Toront was just pulling out, so I got on it. As for situations where I can't just pick another destination, I have my CD player with me, and some magazines with me.

I have a smartphone so I can do a lot to kill the time when I am waiting for my friend. Such as playing the game, watching movies or reading. That's not a big problem and I won't waste my time anyway:) I love China

Usually I would draw pictures and write letters to friends who don't have computers (yes, there are still some people like that!) and just enjoy the quiet, except that sometimes places like that are rather noisy. Fortunately, if I toddle off somewhere quiet, my cell phone has an alarm feature where it can call me with a reminder to head back to where I was supposed to be waiting. Seven hours is a long wait, but I would just ry to make a little mini-vacation out of it.

well it depends on where I am. If I were at home, I'd induldge in my favourite hobby which is scrapbooking. when i"m scrapbooking time just flies. I can be in a crop session (that's what they call the sessions when a few scrapbookers get together wtih their own materials and make pages and albums together) for 6 hours and it will feel like just 2 hours! if I were at an airport, then if I have access to a nice lounge that would be ideal. or if I were at Changi airport then there'd be lots of shopping to do, free massage and even shower facilities so there'd be plenty to occupy my time. If i did not have access to a nice lounge, I'd park myself at a coffee place, read a book and get lost in the plot. reading is another great way to escape and have time speed by. Alternatively, if you have a mini disc video player then you can watch a couple of movies albeit on a tiny screen.

Well, I usually have the novel I'm reading in my purse or briefcase. I love pulling that out when I have to wait on something. If I know I'm going to have to be waiting, I take a spiral notebook and pen to jot down thoughts about articles I can write. Sometimes, I even work on articles at airports or doctors' offices, when I'm waiting. Finally, there's nothing like the iPod to keep me from getting bored by playing the games, watching a movie, or listening to music.

I really hate waiting. That's one of my pet peeves and so I try not to let other people wait if i set up appointments with them. But not all people are considerate so I always see to it that when i go to an appointment and I have to wait, I always have a good book with me so I can catch up with my reading. I love to read so I usually lose myelf in the book and before I know it time has flown and the person or whatever I am waiting for is already there. I also love playing games so i sometimes play games on my cellphoe or other gadget but the best thing for me is reading while waiting.

When I flew to Arkhangel'sk last year, Aeroflot was 4 hours late at LAX. I had an overnight stayover in Moscow (at Aeroflot's expense). I spent the evening in the bar of the Novatel, trying to get in touch with the person who was supposed to meet me that evening in Arkhangel'sk.

I read novels, or else I just go to sleep. It isn't very bad if I am planning on waiting, like at the airport. I just get frustrated when I am not planning on it (like somebody being late). When I know I am going to be waiting I just plan on it. When I am at the airport I travel with my laptop, so I open it up... most of the main airports have wireless internet now... so its not a problem.
