One of the great things about being male is that if we have to get dressed up in a Tuxedo; they all look very similar if not identical, and no one bats an eyelid. However, if two women go to the same "do" wearing the same dress it is seen as a major fahion faux pas. Have you ever seen someone else wearing your dress at a party or dance?

Can't say I have Pikey Darlin, for one my tastes in dress are not what people consider the norm. Of course for that sexy formal little black dress everyone has in her closet, there are only so many ways to do a black dress, I try and find more unique ones or make a basic dress pattern my own.

I have no doubt that when Angel enters the room everyone stops and stares. Dang it. Where does she find those wonderful dresses. Not an eye in the house that is not green!

Hi P1kef1sh, As I woman I have never had this happen to me yet but I should imagine I would be embarrassed if it did, I have been to a wedding where someone had exactly the same shoes but I guess thats is slightly different as not whole outfit. Guys can get away with so much more eh clothes wise I agree. Ellie :D

You are quite right Ellie. Men do get it easier, at least in formal wear. I imagine that it must be embarrassing to see someone wearing the same outfit. Hope that you are feeling a little better tonight.

How funny I have just answered a post identical to this one.But I shall give it another shot.The males get away lightly ,they need their penguin outfit and away they go,a touch of Davidoff or Kourous,thats my ultimate favourite smell and into the taxi.But God made it much harder for a female,she has to spend hours preening and pampering,and then she runs the risk of finding a twin.but I dont see it as a major fashion faux pas one little bit,more a compliment ,as there have been two of you who have the good taste to choose that outfit.

Ruby and I posted at exactly the same time. I can't believe it! Oh well, never mind and thank you for coming. I'm more a Geo Trumper Sandalwood or any Angela Flanders boy myself. But yes, I thank that best thing to do is laugh it off and be complimented that clearly there are at least two women of taste at the "do". Thank you Ella.

I have had people wear similar dresses but not actually the same. I have however seen people wear the same dress and it turned into cat fight city. I don't get what all the fuss is about. I really don't care whether one is wearing the same dress as me. That is why they sale so many off the rack that is similar. I guess in some people's opinion the only time it is okay to wear look alike dresses is bridemaids at weddings.

It's certainly not worth fighting over. The argument should be with the dress store not the other wearers.

youre right ..im wondering too why on women its embarrassing to wear same style of clothes or color in a certain party or even in a group...well yeah i had experienced once and for me its so embarrassing ... it happened during the first year of my marriage..we are visiting a friend since its christmas and i wear a dress made of cotton and had some small prints of pink on it with a shade of black in the background...and i saw their curtains exactly same color as i wear..my gosh im so ashamed of myself and not comfortable at all while im there i even made a remark about the curtains and laugh about it afterwards...thinking how on earth could a shade of black can turned into a curtain?..

I can't recall that happening, p1key, although it's possible that it has. The bad part of something like that happening is that each woman would inevitably compare how good the other woman looked in it, as opposed to herself. And no matter which way it went, it wouldn't be any fun. Lose/lose situation. But I don't think there's really too much danger of that happening to me. I buy a lot of my clothes from online stores, both in the US and abroad. So I don't there's too big a chance of my seeing some other woman in St. Louis wearing my dress. Ha! And I don't dress like the normal St. Louis woman anyway. I lean more toward the ab normal side of things, as ya know. But it IS the prettier side....

Hi p1, That is indeed true..LOL! Anyway, I haven't tried this really in the party or dance and it was great for me..LOL! But, I have seen several women who have the same tops as mine, when I was younger, I don't care about it really. My cousin made me realized it when she told me that she doesn't want anymore to wear her top/blouse since she saw another lady who wears the same, I started to be influenced by her that time and until now, I also don't like if I saw someone who will have the same clothes as what I have!

Oh my... you reminded me of my Senior's Prom... a student from a different section was wearing a dress like mine... it was quite embarassing... we knew each other but we were not very close... so we just stayed away from each other the whole night... from then on... i try to buy clothes that i think are not too common... but still acceptable...
@p1kef1sh (45681)
24 Jul 08
That was probably the best way to do it. I imagine that you were both a little embarrassed. But what good taste you had also!

This is one thing that has never ever happened to me. I have seen it happen to people that I have been out with at the time and that was always just laughed at and we would decide who looked the best in it, but it never happened to me!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
23 Jul 08
I am sure that for some it must be mortifying. But if you can laugh it off then that has to be the best approach.

I dont recall anybody being in the same outfit as me except when I went to my boyfriend's 30th fancy dress birthday last year. I was dressed as Snow White and so was this other woman, it was hired from the same shop. My boyfriends niece was dressed as Snow White but its was a different style! Its annoying how men can just put on a suit, the only thing they have to think about is what colour shirt and tie to wear!! Whereas women have to think about he entire outfit carefully!!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
23 Jul 08
I am sure that it is annoying Cinders. But I bet that you were the prettiest Snow White. But men all look the same, whereas women look outstandingly lovely. You're worth it!

yeah it feels like you are going to dance with her and the dress is your costume.hehehe! but never happened to me...although there are times i saw other person wearing a dress i have..good thing i am not wearing it that time, or else it would be awkward.

I would be extremely surprised if anybody turned up in the same gear I was wearing ... I've been known to go for walks in my dressing gown and would be quite likely to turn up at an important function wearing a sack. It would be nice to be a male in this situation - no pressure!
@p1kef1sh (45681)

LOL. One person's receptacle for chicken feed can easily be another's haute couture! We may all look the same, but male dress code is easier I have no doubt.
