For me it would have to be the starfruit. Boy was that a weird experience. Its a unique looking yellow fruit that is in the shape of a star. I found it to be sweet enough, but it didn't really taste like anything and was bland. I wonder now if there is a fancy way to prepare it that you might only find at some fancy place in New York. Sounds about right. They probably have a starfruit salad or ice cream or something. lol

i know that fruit...there is a delicacy that you can use that...well i am not mistaken that tastes sour correct? if yes, my mom use it as repalcement for tamarind in our local deli called "sinigang" it a dish known for sour taste, it is actually a soup that is sour usually with star fruit, tamarind, guava etc..the main ingriedeint could be pork, beef, shrimp or fish...

but to answer you question, i have this fruit called dragon fruit it is colored pink looks like a fire ball, it also taste sour i tried it just once not becoz it is not tasty but it is way too expensive...lols

I don't really remember, I just remember I didn't like it. Maybe it was sour. At any rate, I know enough to stay away now. lol

THey will put it in tropical drinks and things like that. I'm not sure if I have tried any really exotic fruits. I've probably tasted starfruit before. I have had papaya and kiwi, neither of which are too unusual. I think pomegrante may have been the strangest fruit I've eaten. They have unusual fruit at Bloom grocery probably like uglifruit and such, but I have never bouught it.

I have seen the uglifruit but after my attempts at something new, I am turned off of the whole trying something new thing. lol.

I'm guy who happens to be somewhat of a foodie, and I have often tried many, many things including starfruit, which I like as a component to a champagne sorbet!:)
The most unusual fruit that I ever attempted to eat was Durian Fruit, which I'll never try again! LOL!:)

I really enjoy new things as far as foods are concerned, and it occurs to me that many fruits and vegetables that USA folks consider "normal" are also considered strange by many other cultures...
I hope that you get a laugh out of my article about Durian fruit, and that you will also hear from the Mylot community about their food experiences, too!:)

That is terrific. I don't like many foods, so I don't make a good foodie. lol.

Well for me it was the golden kiwi fruit just shows how much variety there is in Sioux city when it comes to fruit.

myLot reputation of 96/100. tanniebabe78 (754)   ranked 99 out of 1,679 in fruit  3 months ago

Well it is a start. Maybe next time you are out of Sioux City. lol. Stop at a different Walmart. Or whole foods or whatever you have there.

It's not too exotic, but I'm currently eating a Santa Clause melon and it cracks me up every time I eat it. I mean, why did they decide to call it a Santa Clause melon?? lol It's excellent with lime juice, I will say that.

I think rambutan is probably the most unusual fruit I've ever eaten. It's kind of like a lychee with a tribble on the outside. Very tasty!

I also love durian, mangosteen, soursop/cherimoya, etc. I don't think there's a fruit, tropical or not, that I don't love! happy

Wow, I have never seen or heard of any of those. I guess if I were at a market like Pikes in Seattle, Washington I might see stuff like that.

I'd say dragonfruit. It looks very attractive, with the light scarlet colour, and the scale-like rolleyes skin. The inside looks good too - white with little dots (seeds?). But I didn't like it - I don't fancy fruits with tiny seeds that I've to either swallow or spit out!

myLot reputation of 96/100. tanniebabe78 (754)   ranked 99 out of 1,679 in fruit  3 months ago

I am with you on that one. Although it is mostly because to me, it gets in the way of eating the fruit. Then again, maybe God put seeds in fruit to keep us from eating too fast back in the hunting and gathering days.

Unusual fruit, hmm. I don't think I ever have any unusual food, I live in a tropic country, the unusual fruit usually comes from our country lol Like the starfruit, we have so many of them here, it's so not unusual for us. It's good for rujak, a local food where you eat sliced and diced fruits with melted brown sugar plus some spicy ingredients I don't really know.

You should try durian!

Happy mylotting and have a nice day!

I usually like eating kiwi fruit, especially for breakfast and my favourite are those from New Zealand. This morning my husband went to the corner shop and bought a different coloured one, definitely not green like the others, but yellow. I tried it and the taste was absolutely delicious! In a way it reminded me of a tropical fruit or a peach, even though I could not really specify which! What a delicious flavour!

myLot reputation of 96/100. tanniebabe78 (754)   ranked 99 out of 1,679 in fruit  3 months ago

I have never seen a golden kiwi, but it does sound delicious.

For me it would be a pomegranate. Strange looking things, but boy do I love them. They are so hard to find and are usually fairly expensive though. I remember many years ago trying pomegranate wine. Boy was that good. I guess the next strangest would be a mango. Its not something I like I discovered. I've seen the star fruit but didn't know how to prepare or eat it so never bought it.

I have to agree with you there. That is pretty funny. I think the juice is tasty too. Which is as close it as we get around here.
