 As you all know, I completed my citizen ship interview last week. But this discussion is about the interview of my friend. She is from vietnam and she hardly speaks English. This was her second interview. In her first interview she failed because of lack of English speaking. This time she worked hard and came to my house to read history and civics. I helped a little with some words like congress, constitution, amendments. I gave her training for more than 10 days. she had her interview yesterday and she passed this time. She is very very happy and me too!!

Lack of English can be a ard thing to overcome in a hurry, bu with the right friends and the right teaching it's not usually a problem. Good for you for helping your riend out the way you did.

May I ask how many years you had to reside in USA before applying for citizenship? It's been two years for my son and I and we both have permanent resident status. I think we may be here for the long haul so was just wondering who many years before we can apply. Thanks.

It's important to know the language of the country you're a citizen of, as well as knowing the history, civic and political basics. I would have to study to pass a citizenship interview because I've forgotten some of what I learned years ago, but as a citizen of the US, some of it is so familiar I don't even think about it.
