Plastic Bags or Paper Bags.....it is Tough.!!!  

i usually use the cloth bag,it's much convient and hard to be torn apart.Anyway ,doing what we can for the environment protection.

Plastic bags are a lot more convenient than paper bags but i still try to use paper bags as plastic is non biodegradable. Our little convenience (of using plastic bags) can cost a lot to our future generations and our planet.

Where I am all grocers sell reusable bags. They try to encourage shoppers to use the reusable bags. I have a lots of them and is alot better than plastic and paper bags.

i prefer plastic bags compared to paper the same as you.
here in New Zealand it is not compulsory yet. but they are looking @ a 10c per bag in supermarkets but as they are trying to get us to use the GREEN ECO BAGS which are a great thing for the environment & we have the BLUE ECO BAGS which are of course for frozens & fridge stuff.
but their is one down fall in this is we have to remember to take them with us when we go to do shopping.latas lamb101

I will not use paper! Here, the glue they use attracts roaches in the plants they make them in and you'll likely carry the bugs or eggs into your house with a paper bag. I would use my own cloth bags before I would use paper!

Make yourself some cloth bags. It's not hard, just some scrap material and sew it together on three ends, leaving one end open. Sew on a handle and there you go, a nice strong bag that won't break when wet! If you don't sew, ask your laundry lady if she does and pay her to make you a few.

I think some times they pack the plastic bags a little too full, I like the handles on plastic bags, I shop at a store that you have to sack your own, and I find paper bags are useful for putting in boxes of items like macroni, etc, can goods are hard to carry no matter which bag they are sacked in, too many in a paper bag and it splits. I reuse the plastic bags for lining small wastepaper baskets at home, the work as good as a store bought trash bag.

The ban regarding the use of plastic bags are because plastic bags not biodegradable.
This bags easily clogs the path of drains and underground sewerage causing blockage in the free flow of dirty water. In Mumbai city there was huge accumulation of water in the streets due to heavy monsoon rains. During the cleaning operation 17 thousand tons of plastic bags were found jamming the sewerage lines.
Single ply paper bags can tear of easily instead one can use 2/3 ply paper bags. One can also use jute bags instead.A cost impact is their. But the realization of not to use plastic bag should come from the consumer.

I'm so old that I remember when they only had paper bags. Back then, if you bought heavy grocery items, they would double bag them. My parents used double bags in the trash cans too, but I think any sloppy stuff being thrown out was put in a coffee can first.

I always hated the plastic bags, but used them. Lately, they're so poorly made that the bottoms fall out. Paper or cloth is my preference now.

yes plastic bags are really good to use in terms of convenience but they are very bad for our nature and they have many bad effects on our environment as they don't dissolve in the soil(i can't explain more technically) ... its a really good rule to be passed actually but i guess it will cause some inconvenience to the public.

I fully understand what you have been through.Its high time we all realized the bad effects plastic bags have and we all switched over to a better alternative.Its better that you carry a cloth bag with you when you go shopping.Paper bags are good but when its heavy stuff or when it gets wet they easily fall apart.Cloth bags are a better choice.These plastic bags keep accumulating and there is no way it can be disposed.,these plastic bags go and block the drains and when there is a heavy rain all roads are flooded.Its only when a disaster occurs that we all sit and think about it.If people start thinking and acting more cautiously then we can save our environment.No one can change things overnight its up to each one of us to act and do our part to save our planet.
