My husband got me a pair of sandals when we were in Saskatoon and there is one thing that bothers me, the inside sole you know where you put your foot on gets soiled from my feet even when they are clean. I was wondering how anyone keeps the inside soles clean so it does not turn brown? Is there a special type of soap, do you use regular dishwashing soap on a damp cloth or one of those Oxyclean spray bottles or the equivalent? I am sick of tired of them getting dirty and it is a padded insole.

I have a pair of canvas shoes that does that..I spray the inside with spray & was and spray it inside and then clean with a cloth and let dry..It works good for me.I supposs Oxclean would work as well, any thing that you spray on cloths to remove stains will work..

Thanks for the suggestion. I do not have Spray and Wash, but I have a store brand Oxyclean and it works a bit, but does not get them as clean as I would like. I have another product, but have not used it yet. But I will try that.

I just thought of something else and it is really good..It is a frabric cleaner,it cleans spots on rugs, furniture and stuff..If is called "Resolve" frabric cleaner..My husbands pick up ,the seats were dirty,so i sprayed some of that resolve foam on those seats and they came sparkling clean. That water was black so i know that works good too..

Hi Suspenseful, the best thing I have ever found to do this is baking soda and this is also a natural deordoriser too so helps keep shoes smelling very fresh too, just put some onto a damp cloth and rub. It is amazing how many products from your food cupboard you can actually use for other things without having to purchase expensive specialists products. Ellie :D

I found that baking soda does work. I also use an OxyClean or equivalent spray. the other sprays or dishwashing detergants do not work as well. Oh I use baking soda for a lot of things. In fact, so many that I usually run out of it pretty fast.

It is with sandals. I find that the inside sole wears out quicker if I do not keep it clean.

If you are wearing them without socks, they will get like that. Of course, that is the point of wearing them..so your feet can breathe. I don't know of any way to prevent that. I do keep them sweet smelling by spraying them with Odor Eaters.

I use the Odor Easters insoles, but these are new and they have a padded inner sole. They are very comfortable, and I just do not want them to turn brown permanently.

I don't know of anything special to use to keep them clean and so since I am responding from my email, I can't see the other responses you got so that I will know also, what to use to clean them. I have the same problem as you and need to know the answer as I usually end up throwing them away and buying new ones. So if anyone knows that has responded to your discussion, I would like to know too. Thanks for posting this discussion and I hope we get some good answers to help solve this problem.

The best suggestions is a damp cloth with baking soda or use something that contains Oxyclean. That works on the insoles. I used to have my insoles rotten away and I would have to buy some to put inside. And I wanted my shoes to last a little bit longer and not have dirt caked inside of them.

I hear that Oxyclean is real good for a lot of things. My sister-in-law buys it by the bucket full, powder, and she used it for everything including her laundry and cleaning her carpets. I am thinking of buying some and using it too, so I will try it on my shoes. Thanks.

This is normal as the natural oils in your skin will transfer to the soles. And then the dust from outside mixes in with those oils to turn them brown. You might try saddle soap as it will provide a slight barrier to the oils. Or wear socks, but that kind of defeats the purpose of sandals, doesn't it?

I suppose it would. It does look kind of silly wearing socks unless you are wearing slacks and it is a bit on the cool side.

If my shoes ever get dirty, I just stick them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and wash them. I use regular laundry detergent with a little bit of colorsafe bleach to get the stains out of the, I never put them in the dryer though. I always let them air dry or let my fan blow them dry.

I have leather shoes and that would ruin them. I use baking soda on the inside or something with Oxyclean in it. It seems to work.

hi suspenseful I would make a mild solution of baking soda and water and clean them then dry them with a soft cloth. the baking soda is a great cleanser and also deodorizes too, I clean a lot of things with baking soda. It is cheaper than commercial sprays too and no chemicals either.

I think that is probably the best solution. Most of the time, I just sprinkle it inside, but never thought about putting on a damp cloth, so I will try and see how that works. Thanks for the tip.
