He Wanted a Barbie Doll.......!!! |
|
today my 3 year old son held on to a barbie doll and kept pleading me to buy him a doll....i was so irritated and told him boys dont play with dolls but he kept crying for the barbie doll...i love Barbie dolls myself and had 20 of those in my childhood and my bother used to play with He-Man range and GI Joes, my brother never played with a doll, now he is taking that doll every where with him to my friends house to the park and it is so embarrassing....though i liked the doll that we bought after he slept i combed its hair and changed the dolls sandals it bought back the childhood memories..my mom used to sew dresses for my dolls...do you have dolls in your house?did your son ever ask for a doll? what were your favorite childhood toys? would you buy your son a doll if he asked for one?

2. Wizzywig (2917) | 1 year ago | I am surprised that you should find it embarrasing for your son to be playing with Barbie dolls. I have worked in a number of schools and nurseries with children aged 2 to 6 years old and Barbie dolls are very popular with both boys and girls. My son had a Tommy (Rugrats) soft toy which I made a few clothes for. I still have 2 dolls from my own childhood but they just sit on a chair. I never had Barbie dolls.

3. dragon54u (9933) | 1 year ago | My sons never asked for dolls except to blow up! But they did cart around teddy bears, Raggedy Andy and the like--boy dolls, soft and cuddly ones when they were very young. Later, they just wanted monster dolls and GI Joe and stuff like that.
I never liked dolls. I never knew what to do with them because I had no other girls to play with most of the time!

| 4. fletcher70 (14) | 1 year ago | What a dilemma...advice is welcome but at the end of the day you might just let time tell.he might be over the liking in a few days.does your son have brothers or sisters?when i was a child there was five of us fighting for every toy,if i had sweets and wanted to save some...never there when i went back.eat before eaten by others...was like that for 10 years or more.when i started dating this women some years back she had a daughter 7 or 8,it hit me straight away all the affection, chocolate and toys she got was kind of expected and not fully appreciated.sweets lying around...but she knew they would be still there days later.but what i also realised was how lonely she was at times...by herself.something i never had time to think about when i was young.so hopefully its just a phase for your son.

We do this a lot to Children we put them in a BOX because thats what we all do.
Is it not time to allow him to develop who HE is.
I will ask you, WHO are the best WOMEN Doctors in the WORLD. Who are the BEST COOKS Who are the BEST DISIGNERS of WOMENS cloths Who made the FIRST BRA for women.
Could your SON not be one of these.
Im a male who spits, drinks Beer, and scratches his thingies. Ill stand to another man toe to toe, But I will also stand up for your BOY if he wants a BARBIE DOLL.

7. goddessofbeauty (669) | 1 year ago | Same story for me. When he was 2 or 3 he used to play with my dolls and even the dollhouse, but then i had to put the barbies, house and other stuffs to a box and put it to a place he can never reach. I gave him new toys-- superman, wrestlers, gun, trucks, and other toys for the boys... now im glad he doesnt play with the barbies anymore...

8. dropofrain (1086) | 1 year ago | Boys playing with dolls is pretty undigestible to anyone. I have never seen guys playing with dolls but exceptions are always there. I think you should make him interact with guys and then I think he will be influenced and wont demand a doll from you.

9. Transdisc (18489) | 1 year ago | Hello nupats
I used to play with dolls when I was a child. My brothers played with dolls, too. We all played with dolls together. I also played dress up with girls things.
I have three sons and all three have played with dolls. They have also played dress up with girls shoes, rings, clothes, etc. My children have asked for dolls, and I have bought them dolls. I have bought them girls sandals and jewelry.
I have three wonderful boys.

10. Irishfrndly65 (7499) | 1 year ago | I had barbies. My son has never been interested in dolls or even really stuffed animals that much. He does have stuffed animals and might play with one for a few minutes or so. I love stuffed animals, but he loves his cars more. LOL! If given a choice he will pick a toy gun, car, or ball. He likes anything with wheels or engines, or that he can play 'cowboy' with. LOL! He does like his new kitties very much, though. But then, they are real. He doesn't pretend much, he wants something to really work. He would rather follow his dad around hammering etc. He's a hoot.
I don't know as I would be too worried. If it really concerns you then get him a GI Joe or something. Or how about Spiderman or Hulk? My son loves superhero characters. He thinks Spidey rocks! He's 4.
