I am collecting DVD box sets of my favorite 60's and 70's shows. Nothing on these days worth watching muchless buying. But that is just me....what box sets are you collecting? Do you collect the box set of shows you currently watch as they come out or wait till they cancel ths show and wait for them to come out? Do you watch a current show as it airs AND your box set of previous seasons?

I like to wait until the season is over to get the box set. It makes it easier to watch all of it together.

I really enjoy makig a "weekend" of it...take all seasons and just watch them back to back all weekend long! I have done that with I Love Lucy and Gilmore Girls and it is alot of fun. I did it part weekend with Gomer Pyle USMC,which they ony have season 1 and 2 and laughed till I was silly - but it was so much fun!

Yeah, that's the way to do it. I like doing that with "The Office" and "heroes". It took me a while to get around to them, but it's so much better to watch it all at once...

I watch Amazon.com for the sales - about $15 per season. THey all come on sale sooner or later! I do a survey site that pays in Amazon.com gift card and I currently have $30 sitting there waiting to use, just haven't found what I want yet. I am serioudly thinking of getting the first seson of original Star Trek series - Loved that show and Captain Kirk - one the days I wasn't lovin' Scotty!

I collect box sets of older movies and series, not the current shows. Though I am educated in English, I collect Chinese movies and series(from Hong Kong) and the only English box sets I bought were the past seasons of CSI.
My husband would buy English action movies while my dad collects the James Bond series.

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

I have a few older movies - Final Countdown, Titanc, GWTW, Star Trek4, Long Long Trailer and a few others. They are fun to watch. My son used to love the James Bond movies with Sean Connery and I recorded themall when they came on TV. I am considerting buying them for him on DVD for christmas. I dont watch tv hardly at all these days. Just nothing worth wasting my time - seriously, the shows these days are pathetic and I just have to wonder why people think they are so great...s*x, killing, sleeping wit whoever....even the comdey sitcoms are like that. I wathc the food network, History channel and such.

No, I have never bought a DVD box set of any TV show? I feel like if I watch the show on TV already, then I don't need to buy a DVD and look at rerun of something I have already saw before. I agree the older TV shows in the 1960's and the 1970's were better than some of the current TV shows that are on the air now. However, I notice that the TV Land channel (it is channel 60 where I am in Maryland) shows a lot of old shows from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's and I enjoy watching the old shows such as Leave it to Beaver, I love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, Sandford and son, Andy Griffith and The Beverly Hillbillies, among the other shows I can't name all of them here. The Beverly Hillbillies is my favorite oldie show. I love Granny because she is so full of energy for an old woman. Jethro is so dumb. Mr. Drystale will bend over backwards to please Jed Clampett because he wants to keep his millions in the bank. The funny part about this show is that the Clampett family never change their lifestyle and stay so naive and innocence even after becoming rich and moving to California. If I would buy one show on DVD, then the Beverly Hillbillies would be the show I would choose to buy. But why, should spend money to buy this show when it comes on TV everyday. A lot of old shows have been in syndication for years and years, so you can pretty much watch it anytime you want without buying the DVD.

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

I thought the same thing. All these years I have been recording them on VHS - same ones you mention. But as they come on sale, I am buying them as I fear at some point, those tapes are going to break! I am a Lucy fan and bought the full series, plus the Desi/Lucy comedy hour - I have spent weekends watching those! Classic comedy that never gets tiring even tho I can quote the shows dialog right along with the characters! I bought 1-5 of the Andy Griffith show - love that show the comedy is so great! I also am watching for season of Gomer Pyle USMC, I got season 1 and 2 and literally laugh constanlty as I watch. Newhart is also hilarious!

And yeah, i agree with you on the Clampets - I wish the world was more like that today! They were honest, hardworking intelligent people that didn't let society and the world corrupt them. I think of that often and then watch them every night on TV Land from 6-7pm and just laugh!

My fiance and I are big into collecting the box sets of our favorite TV shows. We have many of them. However we do perfer to get the box set when it comes available on DVD box sets. Those are usually the best times to get them. As well alot of them we have racked up points for so we use our points to get box sets and alot of movies. Some of them that we collect are: Married With Children, Law & Order, Law & Order:CI, Law & Order: SVU, Without a Trace, Cold Case, One Tree Hill, Ghost Whisper, Grey's Anatomy, Beverly Hills 90210, ER, and many many others. For those nights that the Satelite knocks out due to high winds, rain, snow and sleet or just because we want to watch them we have many to choose from and the best part is no commericals. thumbup

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

It is just fun to watch those shows without commercials and for the entire evening if you want to! I am not into any that you mention but box sets just make it more fun to watch the shows in order. No waiting till next week to see the continuation or the next chapter.

I would love to have all the boxed DVDs of my favorite TV shows ... I only have a few right now ... the Johnny Carson show (Tonight show), "Marlowe" a detective series on HBO about Philip Marlowe played by Powers Boothe. I would love to get "The Streets of San Francisco" with the young Michael Douglas, "The Honeymooners" and a lot more. My husband has all the boxed sets of the James Bond movies. These collections are so pricey though ... especially "TSOSF" ... this show is never on in syndication ... so I would love to have it. I loved "WKRP in Cincinnati" and have been watching the reruns lately.

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

Yeah, it is fun to get those older series and see how "far we've come". THere is nothing on tv these days that I watch, just nothing worth wasting my time. But I lOve Lucy, GOmer Pyle USMC, Newhard, Gilmore Girls, Andy Griffith Show - those are classic comedy and I laugh every single time I watch them! I am trying to get Mama's Family from the 80's which was absolutely hilarious - I recorded them all on VHS nad watch them but it is only a matter of time before that tape breaks!

I'd LOVE to have All The Rivers Run on DVD- hasn't come out yet. IT was an HBO mini series back in the 80's, last I saw it. Haven't seen it on any channel since. Sure was a good mini series.

I'm collecting Friends VCD (video CD) boxes and The Dead Zone DVD boxes. On Friends, I'm only lacking season 10 and on The Dead Zone, I've only seasons 1 and 2. I remember I bought Friends because I really love it even if it was still airing (what's airing that time was season 7 I think. I'm starting with 1 anyway). I bough Dead Zone because it suddenly stopped being aired in our country. Unfortunately, it eventually got canceled at Season 6. Still, I'd love to get the later seasons but don't have enough money for them yet. I'll only buy DVD boxes of shows that I really really like.

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

ITs good that we can get the ones that get cancelled. I have many on VHS but am trying to gather the DVD's cause I know there will be a time the tape will break! So I just wait till they go on sale for the box set.

myLot reputation of 97/100. EnslinPorter (1318)   ranked 1,665 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

Oh yes, so true! I totally agree with the tapes, they just get old and it's hard to play them anymore.

The only boxed set I ahve is of seindfeld. I dont know why I wanted it becasue I have seen all the shows on TV at least 3 or4 times. It gives you some background on the shows which I find interesting, but I actually would like to sell this set. If there are any takers send me a pm. Just kidding. I'd like to get teh Sopranos possbily.

IT is nice to have your favs and pull them out in a few months and have a movie night! Some are still on re-runs so we see them there but many aren't on tv anymore. I love the sitcoms from 60's and 70's.

I am in love with 21 Jump Street and the only way I can get the show is by box sets. Well, at least I don't have to wait for a certain ep to come out, I can watch it all at one time and slaver over Johnny Depp! yay!

myLot reputation of 96/100. coffeebreak (7201)   ranked 33 out of 4,082 in watching television  4 years ago

I remember Jump Street being quite popular. I never watched it - but it seemed to be the rage! And those kinds are coming back these days. Nice to see the good 'ol stuff come back when there is nothing but trash on TV!

I've tried to like that show, but just can't. I like Charlie Sheen - loved Martin Sheen all those years ago (Final Countdown) and the few minutes per episode when he was on West Wing but then he went political. But I just can't take 2,1/2 men. THe little boy is rather hilarious, but the story lines and such are just not what a boy his age should be included in. But, it is tops in the industry and I read the other day Charlie gets $825,000 per episode!
