Sorry, wrong number.

Again. I get calls every day that are wrong numbers. Even more often than telemarketing calls. I have had my phone number for almost 3 years, you'd think the wrong numbers would have at least slowed down by now. But I keep getting the same ones-- for Dave, Donny, and often calls for the pizza place. I checked and my number is similar to the pizza place, so I started telling people the correct number when they call. I keep getting calls from collection agencies for Donny, and they don't seem to believe me that it is a wrong number. Apparently, Donny used to have this number and owed lots of people lots of money. And these people are very persistent in trying to get their money. I have had to explain, many times, that there is no one here by that name and to please remove my number. Sometimes they don't seem to believe me, but what can I say? Never heard of the guy. This is so frustrating. I should start screening my calls.

I get wrong numbers all the time. People asking for complete strangers and some odd things. I somehow wish these calls would be more rational but there are obviously some real characters out there.

You should get the guys name and the name of the collection agency and tell them that if they call you again, you will call the police and report them for harrassment as you have told them repeatedly that they have the wrong number and they persist in calling you anyway. That may scare them off. I used to get calls for a Chinese restaurant that's number was one digit different from ours. Also, when they were building across the street from us, our line got crossed with Dominick's food. Their conversations were recording on my answering machine!

I've had crossed lines before. Just the other day I heard someone else talking while I was on the phone.

I screen mine. 1800, 1888, 1866 numbers dont get answered. I regularly get calls for a Barbara from collections, as well as people wanting to chat with her. One guy was so persistent in wanting to talk to Barbara';s boyfriend Mervin (he called 10 times in 3 hours) that i faked like i was crying and told the guy we had broken up. He's never called again.

Good idea. I really don't want to screen my calls. I shouldn't have to. But it may come to that.
