What A Dreary Day

Canada
August 9, 2008 2:48pm CST
Well, here it is Saturday afternoon, and it's raining heavily (yet again.) We're about to set a record in this part of the world (Ontario, Canada), for the most rain in 'recorded' history. Tomorrow is supposed to be exactly the same. There have been some very severe thunderstorms too this year, with hail stones the size of golf balls. Funnel clouds have also been reported. Too many days like this, and my mood matches the weather. What kind of weather are you experiencing right now? Where are you experiencing this weather from (location wise)? Is your mood often affected by the weather?

It is 9am on Sunday morning. I just went outside to take a few pictures and it is simply gorgeous out!! It did rain for a short time this morning for about 10 minutes. That was around 2 o'clock. It pushed the "cold" front through and it is not muggy out at all. I would say it is around 80 degrees and the sky is as blue as it can be. Beautiful!!

Wow, that really does sound like a beautiful day you had there. Where are you located, if you don't mind my asking? It's Wednesday morning here, and we're in for yet another rainy day. We've had far too many this summer, for my liking. We live about 45 minutes east of Toronto. I hope you're having a good day, and thanks so much for your response.

I'm sorry to hear about the flooding that you had. So far, there's been nothing like that here, but we have experienced some very severe downpours. We've also had damaging winds in some areas.

I am in the east central part of the Illinois down here in the USA. It's supposed to be nice here for the rest of the week. I know what you mean about having plenty of rain...or more than enough. One night in early June, we had around 8 inches of rain in about 8 hours. We had a big flooding situation in the area. Anyway, it is gorgeous again today. This day number 4 of it being nice. I thought it was going to rain yesterday because it got cloudy....but it didn't.

It has been rainy all week..We are in Pennsylvania...Tonight they are calling for a thunderstorm...and more rain...I actually thought it was going to be sunny today..That didn't last long... With all the drearyness outdoors, my grandsons and I have been doing jigsaw puzzles...500 pieces..We are on our third one since Monday...We have been playing all sorts of games too! My joints ache with the changes in the weather all the time....today I was extremely tired...no get up an go at all...Alot of that is due to being Anemic..Just started back on iron pills... When the weather is like this, and I don't have the kids...I usually snuggle up with a good book and read the day away... Take care of yourself...I care about you...Hugs

Hi Feona, It seems like these weather conditions are very widespread, from what I've been told. We've had far too many rainy days and major thunderstorms here, to count this summer. It's supposed to rain here again, for most of the day. I really enjoy jigsaw puzzles too, although I haven't done any lately. What kind do you like to do? My sister's family that we visit several times a year, are really into board games, as are my daughter and I. We always include this activity when we're there. We're heading there for a week next Monday, and it sure will be great to get away for a bit. I too suffer from some of the health issues you've mentioned. Well, I'm not Anemic, but I have hypothyroidism, which causes me to be exhausted much of the time. You take care of yourself too, and thanks for sharing here. Hugs to you as well.

That sounds great. I've played all of the games you've mentioned, with the exception of kids Skip Bo. I really enjoy the adult version. My sister's family have so many games, it's like a game store there. They keep adding to their collection. The puzzles sound like fun. The glow in the dark ones would be great for kids. Enjoy. Hugs.

Hi weemam, I know that Scotland can be a rainy place to be, as it was when I visited back in the seventies. The day we took the bus tour of 'Lochness,' it was too foggy and rainy for 'the monster' to come out. I hope the weather is good there today, and that you're out enjoying your drive. If not, please put your feet up, after all of that hard work. It's a little brighter here today, but I think it's supposed to storm again tonight. Thanks so much for your response.

I can see we're not that far away. Here in TOronto the weather is exactly the same : Miserable! LOL ANd you're right this summer has been pretty much all like that. Plenty of very hot days - those hazy ones that are just saying: There's a thunderstorm coming - or just rain and grey days. It's funny in a way that of all summers - that haven't been all that bad - this was the one that I would remember to invite my mom over and the one that she finally decided to come. As she came to the window today she said it was a winter day, and in a way I can certainly understand her, this would be a winter day back home LOL Well, let's hope it gets better and not worse:)

YEs I am worrying about winter too, and how soon it will come. MY mom is from Brazil but she has been living in Portugal for many years. She's feeling really cold right now LOL We were about 15 degrees here yesterday and we still were wearing short sleeves while she was rummaging her luggage for a winter jacket hehehehehe

I can understand how your mom must feel, coming from such a warm climate. You're right about our winter, as I too wonder how bad it's going to be, after the horrible one we had last year. The weather in this part of the world, has certainly gone crazy of late, but I guess it's that way everywhere. I sure don't like any of it. Very unsettling for a number of reasons.

You're right. We're experiencing exactly the same weather, as this is the way it is this summer in the 'GTA.' Very strange weather, and I really don't like it. I'm wondering too, what type of winter we'll end up having, after all of the snow last year. It's too bad the weather isn't better for your mom's visit. Where's she from? Thanks so much for sharing here.

It has been raining here on and off most of the day. We do have a very nice cooler evening. It has been really hot the last couple of weeks, so it's nice to have it cooled some. Tomorrow they say will be really nice. Low 80's and sunshine. My mood isn't really affected by the weather unless there isn't any sun for several days.

Hi OURDEW, We've had some hot days too, but the rain this summer has been unreal. Way too much for my liking. I hope you're having the nice day they promised. It's overcast here, with the threat of more rain. I'm okay with rain for a day or two, but too many days in a row definitely make me feel down. I appreciate your response.

Hi tamarafireheart, I guess you experience quite a lot of rain in the UK? I visited England and Scotland back in the seventies, and there were quite a few rainy days. I remember finding out, that many people in England never leave home without an umbrella, even if the day's sunny. My mother used to say "Nice weather for ducks, too." Thanks for the memory, and for your response.

We have had so much rain here in Chgo so i know how you feel. The older people here in the neighborhood are complaining that their grass is starting to mold,i never knew grass could mold so i just tell them what a shame-lol. All this rain and it just started to rain again makes me feel lazy and i want to eat, though now i have to really watch what to eat :( This dang weather even knocks out my phone and internet service so then i get aggrivated. A couple of days ago we had severe thunderstorms and tornados that touched down, alot of people are still without electricity.

Wow, I didn't know that. I guess the rain has been widespread across North America this summer. I've never heard of moldy grass either. I can relate to both results that you've mentioned here. I'm continually having to shut down the computer, because of all of the sudden thunderstorms that have come up too. The other day, the storms were so bad, that I couldn't get online for most of the day. I hope the electricity is back on soon. Thanks for sharing here.

Well, You know what the weather is like here as we are in the same neck of the woods! I hope you are wrong about tomorrow as we have outdoor stuff planned!!! Today didn't much matter as I had to go into work to cover someones shift anyways today so it may as well rain and yes it does affect my mood especially after several days! Hope all is well with you! Take Care! Love and Hugs ~Heavens~

I sure do know what it's like, and it's been mostly horrible of late! You can't really plan any outdoor activities in advance. I'm happy to hear that your day was a success. The weather this summer has really given me the blahs, along with everything else. Unfortunately, it's supposed to rain for a good part of the day today. By the way it looks outside, I'm sure that this will be the case. Take care, and Love and Hugs to you too. I hope we can 'talk' soon.

Here in California we are having a drought and it is hot, hot, hot, it is suppose to be 96. Now it is unusual for us we have the humidity this week. Our humidity now is 63% and 68degrees F. Now as it warms up it will get only hotter and the humidity will feel even worst for me. Yesterday the humidity was at 38% and it was 91 degrees. Now that does not sound like it is that hot and in some parts of the world it isn't but here where our humidity is usually in the teens I was not tolerating it well. I had heat stroke one time and now I cannot tolerate the heat well. I do go out and get into my pool to cool off for a few minutes. I hope by now you are drying out and have some sun.

I can't stand humidity either, so can really relate to this. Wow, you're having a drought there? This had been our experience here some summers, but far from it this year. I like a nice balance with the weather, but that's usually not the case anymore. Actually we've had a good run of sunny days now, which is great, but we're supposed to be back into some rain again later today, and tomorrow. Thanks so much for your response.

Hi, I'm in Miami Florida, and it has been a scorcher today! Not only hot, but very humid as well! I was up in Ontario (Niagara Falls) about a month ago and loved the fact that at night it was so cool for me. We experienced temperatures in the range of 59-65 degrees at night. Is it always like that? What is the temperature like in the winter? I don't think I could handle that, but the summer nights were sure nice. Hope you get some sunshine soon!

Hello di1159, I don't like a lot of humidity, and it gets harder for me to take each year. I've been to Niagara Falls too, and I know what you mean about the cooler nights. Actually, last night here, it became unseasonably cool, and is still quite cool today. Our winters can be very cold here, and the temperatures often dip into the minuses, with severe wind chill factors. Last winter we had tons of snow. Today isn't too bad, but it is overcast, and I think we're in for some more rain this evening, and maybe even a thunderstorm. Thanks for sharing here.

It's Saturday here in SW Florida. And like yours, a dreary day. Cloudy and raining off and on. Still really humid outside. This kind of day makes me feel like I can't wake up and yet I can't sleep... off and on just like the rain!

Have you had a lot of rain there of late too? I'm so sick of all of the wet weather. Like you, I feel half awake on days like this. The thing with me is though, if I sit down in a comfortable spot, I have no problem dozing off to sleep. Thanks for your response.
