Today is my birthday and I have to work, in fact, I have to leave in just a few minutes and the last thing I want to do today is go to work. My son is due home from California tomorrow and tomorrow will be his birthday. I have a million things to do. Originally, I was scheduled off, but we are short staffed so I got picked to fill the void. Grrrrr.........Wouldn't it be nice to be a kid again and have that wonderful feeling you get when you wake up on your birthday knowing there will be parties and cake and not a care in the world? Those days dissapeared a long time ago. So I figure well if you can't beat them, then perhaps I'll just buy myself a new pair of shoes. When is the last time you REALLY celebrated a birthday withoout having to attend to all of those adult tasks? Did you buy yourself something special and if you did what was it?

Happy Birthday Kat. What a bummer having to go into work. Still treat yourself to those shoes. My best adult birthday was probably my most recent. My 50th. My family all asked me what I wanted as a present and for a long time I was stuck. They wanted to buy me something lavish and expensive. I have most things that I need, and so I politely declined their offers. However, it struck me that the one thing that we rarely do as a family is get together. So that's what we did. We booked us all into a local hotel. Had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant and then dragged our weary bodies upstairs to bed at the appropriate time. The following morning we had breakfast together before going our separate ways. When I went to pay, I discovered that the family had already paid for our daughter my wife and myself. Their time, that was the best and only present that I received this year. Have a lovely day.

I think I responded to your discussion about your birthday, before I even got a chance to comment back on this. LOL. I will wish you Happy Birthday once again and tell you that I hope your day is absolutely wonderful.

Happy Belated Birthday! I hope your day was a good one.
All my birthday's are good ones. I don't work, so I don't get called in. lol
I own my own business online, and I just close shop on that day!
I do buy myself something (clothes, shoes, makeup, etc.) or get my hair cut.
My daughter treats me to lunch and my hubby treats for dinner, so I have great birthdays.

So sorry you got sick that night. It may have been the new meds that did it. Sometimes that is the side affect unfortunately.
Take Care

Thank you. My day wasn't anything spectacular. Although I was taken out for dinner. Later that night I started some new meds and I'm not sure whether it was the meds or the dinner, but something made me really sick to my stomach. Anyway, it subsided in time for me to pick my son up from the airport the next day and that was really all the birthday I needed. Just to have him back home.

i have no idea! I have been attending to those adult task since I was 14. I don't think I ever had a birthday where there wasn't something i needed to do first before i could do something just for me.
I was trying to remember if i got myself something special for my last birthday. then i thought, well if i have to think that hard, i bet i didn't get myself anything
. which sounds about right being that it's so close to the holidays and i always want to make sure the children have the things i want them to have.
Happy Birthday to you girl and i hope you get a pair of wonderful shoes

you are right. you know with so much going on in my house right now, from getting my son off to college, tryingto finish up this website, to getting my other son ready for school, not to mention my full time job, my 3 year old, my hubby and little doggie cocktail. i am suprised i can pull myself out of the bed in the moring. i just stay going all day. once things die down a bit, i was thinking of treating myself to a nice spa day

It sounds as if doing something for yourself, whether its for your birthday, or just because is long overdue.

Lol, yes, when we were kids we didn't really appreciate all of it;)
Happy Birthday!!!
On my birthday I went and got myself two new books I wanted. I figured that hubby wouldn't do much. Boy was I wrong. He had hired a sitter and took me out for a dinner and a movie. That's an extravagance we can't really afford but it was nice to have a date night *blush*

I hear ya! I was actually fortunate enough to be able to celebrate my birthday this year. I was given a trip to Vegas for my birthday and got to see my best friend who I had not seen in 3 years. But it was the first year I hadn't had to work on my birthday(only because it was on a Saturday) in like 4 years. So I was excited to actually celebrate it!

Now that is very cool. Wish I could get away to anywhere besides work right now. What a really nice gift you received. Would have been even better if you had won a bunch of money when you were there.

I think we are all children at heart and long to slip back into those carefree, no worries, life is a ball years! Even as an adult I refuse to work on my birthday, but fortunately I have had the luxury of being able to, I haven't worked a birthday since I was 18, so that's 19 years of having May 18th Wolfie's Day LOL! I just like to crash out, watch dvds, treat myself to chocolate and ice cream and pig out! But yes it would be lovely to have those parties again and have lots and lots of presents, not the same any more, birthdays to me are like another step towards my gravestone and I have the lovely big 4 - 0 on the horizon too. Anyhow happy birthday for yesterday my dear friend and I was going to send the strippers but I haven't finished with them yet ;0)

Dang it Wolfie. You promised. You said you'd be done with those strippers in time for my birthday. After all you've had them since May 18th. By the time I get them, they'll be all worn out. How fair is that. Now you've got me pouting.

I can't remember the last time i really celebrated my birthday... it is not really a big thing for me... but honestly... i think i need to change that... since i am growing older... and i think i deserve one birthday party before i actually stop having one... but buying new shoes to celebrate it is a good and unique way... have never done that myself...

Well, I never did buy those shoes. I decided I couldn't really afford them with my son coming home. I figured he'd need alot of things. Growing boys always do. It is well worth it to sacrifice for him.

Hi kbourgerie,
With me it's hard, since our annviersary is in Jan, my husband b-day in Feb, and my B-day is Mar. so what we do is in the month of march we go celebrate everything, go have a nice dinner, go to Laughlin for the weekend. So that is my way of have a good time. I've always wanted to have surprise party, the only time I did was when I turn 16, and only because my girls friends gave it to me. I had a great time. Never had another like that. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU AND YOUR SON.Let me know what kind of shoes you got.

Hi kbourgerie
I hope that you and you're son had a great birthday. I would have done the some thing,I put my kids before me because if I didn't I wouldn't feel right. It doesn't matter how old they are. there will always be a next time, when you will be able to buy a pair of shoes. Take care and have a great day

Hey there kbourgerie! Happy Belated birthday
. It has been a while for me also since I have enjoyed an adult-tasked free birthday. On my birthday (last Nov.5) I upgraded my cell phone (oh wait, that was nearly 2 years ago
). Well last year, oh that's right, I did nothing. This year I turn the big 4-0 and I am going to do something really nice. I deserve it. Take care kbourgerie and God Bless!

It is a shame that you have to work on your birthday. I think that it is always sad when we grow up that our birthdays seem to be come so unimportant, just another day.
As children we are spoiled and made a fuss of all day long and it is all so special. I try every year to do something special for me, but unless it is on a weekend it is hard as my family work and go to school and somehow its not much fun alone!! Hope you get a nice pair of shoes, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Thank you so much for the kind wishes. I love your new avatar. I think we should spend as much time celebrating our birthdays as we grow older as we did as a child. Why does it become less important, are we less important as people? I think not.

i don't really celebrate my birthday with those so many guests, so much food on the table and a birthday cake. i just spend dinner with my family. that's fine with me.
last year was my first time to have my birthday here in sweden with my boyfriend (i am originally from the philippines). my boyfriend's parents did everything for my day. they cooked for me and planned everything. they also gave me some gifts. my boyfriend baked me a cake and gave me some gifts, too. it really felt great.
well, that's true, in your case, if you can't beat them, atleast buy yorself a new pair of shoes. i mean, it's worth it, right?

It sounds like you were really spoiled on your birthday. And a boyfriend that baked a cake? Now that is a treat in itself. I know very few men that bake cakes. He sounds like a keeper.

I don't think I would like having a birthday in December. Too much going on then, birthdays tend to get overlooked. Its nice to be able to spend your birthday with your family though, I'm sure.

I am not really a kid or an adult, but I have not had a nice relaxing birthday in ages as I have either been at school, at college or at work. I have not had a party since I was about 10 years old, other than that I tend to just go out for a meal or something, since from the age of 11 my parents thought I was too old for a balloon and cake party.
I like buying new shoes though, if everyone bought me new shoes for my birthday and I had no party, I would be very happy.

I think you should have been able to celebrate birthday as a child long after 10 years old, but what do I know. As for shoes, I work in the shoe department at Dillards. LOL. You would think getting new shoes wouldn't be very exciting, but it still is.
