Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face

Meaning:Don’t engage in an act of anger or revenge that will hurt you more than it hurts anyone else. Have you ever said that to someone? Did they listen? Have you ever ended up acting out of anger and been sorry later?

I think at one time or another we all have. I know I probably have also. I don't try to but there are just times..Jealousy,envy,rage has a way of making us do things we don't normally do and we end up getting ourselves into trouble more then anything else. Yes I do feel sorry about that when it happens. Remorse

Sorry forgot that I answered this discussion. It was still in my email inbox so I thought I hadn't answered it yet. Sorry for the double post.

Yes, I have. No, they don't listen. Very sad, but very true. I try not to speak in anger. However, sometimes people just won't let me be quite and stew until I'm calmer.

I guess we all have at one point or another in our lives, it starts off when we were kids and told not ot do something or they would be consequences and we'd do it anyway knowing we'd be in a heap of trouble..So I have been known to spout off at the mouth on occasion when I am mad and regret it later.. So I try to control it as much as I can..cause all it does it make things worse for me.

I am guilty of that myself! I have done it many many times and I am a fool to myself, trouble is I am extremely stubborn, I know that is no defence but I would rather spite myself than to let things beat me! Once I was working in a department and I worked really really hard for them, but because of nepotism I was taken out of the department and someone else took my position, but this person was useless so they asked me to come back and I refused! They weren't using me so instead of taking the job I walked out, cutting my nose to spite my face, how dare they! People said I was foolish, I realize now I am but at the time I wasn't going to let them win. I have done this a lot of times, sometimes I can't help myself it's the Taurean in me and I refuse to back down even if it means coming off the worst and losing.

When I was older I did? Once your hormones settle and you don't have the same energy..you tend to think it through more and not cause harm or be as impulsive.

i have always tried to tell someone who is acting out of anger to wait it off, then think it through and make a decision because you aren't completely rational while in a state of anger. as for me, long story, but i was null and void of emotion for a long time. When i first felt anger after such a long time, i ignored my own advice and acted out of anger, and as is usually the case it didn't feel good afterwards.
