Thank you notes/cals/letters  

I do what I can to make it known that I am thankful for the gifts I receive either by a simple thank you note, SMS, email or call. I even thank and greet strangers I meet along the way when I do my errands. You are right, traditions like that are dwindling by the minute nowadays and you need not worry that you married into a weird family, because you did not. Its sad that people seem to be a little less thankful specially nowadays that communication is becoming easier by the minute. I guess its up to us to bring back old traditions like this.

I too can remember that and other things we did as children which today's children don't do. Certainly with all the many easy ways to communicate nowadays there is no excuse for not thanking.

I phone or personally say thankyou if and when I receive anything, be it a postcard or a gift.

I have a son who unfortunately does not take after his mother. Maybe it's my fault but I certainly remember telling him at least to SAY 'thankyou'. I was at his home a few days ago and he opened a birthday card which had arrived from an aunt overseas. I asked if he would remember to thank her and he said that he would be in contact with her when he returns from his week's holiday at the sea. I wonder whether THIS time she will be lucky and really hear something from him

I do not write thank notes but yes I call back and do appreciate the kind gestures of those who have taken valuable time to send me gifts or well wishes. Most of such correspondence have now been switched via emails and it is very convenient too. I feel all kind gestures makes life pleasant so one should observe good practice.
