Can you work with music/ noise? |
| |
| I can't stand having a lot of noise or constant music when I work, and this is causing major problems for me at my job. The girls next to me insist on playing horrible music all day on most days. They basically ignore my requests to turn it off for awhile. I was essentially told by my manager that music was always played there before I started working there, and I have no right to ask anyone to turn it off. It is a shame, because I had really wanted to work there, and am finally at the point where I know what I'm doing, and could have seen myself working there for a long time. But this will seriously drive me insane, and I have to start looking for a new job AGAIN. This was always a problem for me, even in college, I could not study with music or the TV. And constant noise just makes me crazy. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with noisy co-workers?? | | | | | |

| | Wow I am sorry that is frustrating for you. Some function better with a certain amount of background noise. I am one of those. And since my daughter started school, I do work with a bit of music in the background. But I work from home. If I were in an office environment still, I would be more respectful. I hope you will be able to come to a compromise with your co-worker. | | | | | | |

| | If it's driving you insane, i suggest you better seek a professional. most people who are working (especially in the corporate world) would need diversion from pressure and stress...and not to anyone's surprise, music is the best stress reliever (well, at least in a workplace) i know it gets irritating when you are about to concentrate, but then you lose your attention because of the distraction. maybe it's the kind of music..maybe it's the repetitive playlist..maybe the time of the day that makes it inconvenient for you. and it's true that you can't make total elimination of music at work. it's the majority that can work under given environment. plus, that has been the practice even before you got in. and am pretty sure none of them would give in to your want. maybe you can compromise and let them know that you are becoming inefficient with your work because you easily get distracted. toning down the volume is one way of compromising. both parties win. am sure you can figure out what you can compromise on. =) i guess you should start learning multitasking. using more than two senses at the same time. =) | | | | | | |

| | Yes, it is mainly the type of music, and the repeitiveness, but also just the constant noise. I'm sure you didn't mean to offend, but the fact that I cannot concentrate with music does NOT mean I need professional help. It is a personality trait, not a mental problem. But thanks. | | | |

| | yep, i didnt mean any offense. when i said seek a professional i dint mean going to any psychiatrist. maybe just talk to some who know more about groups or organizations. and probably from there they can help you with how to deal with such, cuz you dnt want to get into trouble of your co workers disliking you or making decisions of quitting your job because of this, right? probably you can bring your i-pod, if you get sick of their playlist. that's what i do. good luck. don't let your good mood down, a'ryt? =) | | | |

| | Noise doesnt really bother me when i'm working. I think if i didnt like the music I would be annoyed though. I'm not sure what you can do to make the problem better only ask if there is somewhere else you could move to so you wouldnt be effected by the music. That might be the only thing you could do. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah unfortunately since there are only 4 in the department, there is nowhere for me to move to! I will be bringing in earplugs tomorrow, though. | | | |

| | I have some problem with noise when I'm seriosly doing my work. I can't concentrate do my work when there is noise around of me. Neither is come from TV or music player. All the same it's distrub me. I hate when my brother turn the television quite loudly. Maybe this is a normal for everyone that can do something in noise condition. But my friend has the reverse condition. He can't do anything if there is no music playing. So I think you can try to adjust in your work situation. Hopefully you can do it. Happy mylotting... | | | | | | |

| | It depends on the type of work that we are associated with. If i am running a MUSIC SCHOOL, i can't work without music. But in office works, we have the right to stop unwanted noise that diverts our attention from our work. If we are not comfortable with the environment in the office, we can't do our maximum effort in our works. It will be a loss to the management if we are not doing our best. | | | | | | |

| | I dont mind having noise or music in the background unless I am doing something where I need to hear something (like transcribing) but I think that if you have a problem with it they should really have the courtesy to turn it down for you - it shouldnt be up that high for everyone to hear if you are working in your own area. | | | | | | |

| | Hello fluffysue, I am the same as you I cannot stand all those pop noise and also the tv adverts it seems to blast out and I have to mute it, the programme itself is is not loud but when the break comes I alway mute the sound. What you need is some soft music on very low volume. Tamara | | | | | | |

| | Although my job sucks 'x', but then is a lucky thing that everyone here respects the others. They bring their own headphone/ earphone to work. I only listen to music with my earphone when I feel sleepy at work. But I do hate noisiness when I am hard at thinking. I will take off my headphone if I need to think a lot. | | | | | | |
