The UK's annual roadworthiness inspection for vehicles over 3 Year old (currently) is still commonly known as the "M.O.T." (for Ministry of Transport),though that body has been replaced by others since (DVTA-NI is the one I go to...) For the first time ever since buying my first car,my current car's certificate has been the only one I've received without having had the car inspected and serviced before the test..So I was wondering...How Many of You have your car serviced before a vehicle test? Or do you wait to see where the examiner finds any problems before getting them fixed? Thanks for responses!

Hey there! I just had my car go through road worthiness test in LTO (Land Transportation Office) here in the Philippines and I usually prepare my vehicle around a month before. It's my cue to maintain and fix the car. I change the oil again, have the engine checked and washed. Fix electronic parts and make sure they work. I did change tires for a few years. Well, my car is 14 years old. It's still working fine and I just use it to get from point a to point b. Although, I wanted to race, I still maintain the car and is still efficient at it. After the vehicle inspection though, there are still some things that I did miss but usually they're electronic in nature.

just so long as the electronic problems that they find don't result in a fail for your car... here,in Northern Ireland,if you even forget to fill up the windscreen washer bottle and they test the screen washers, and nothing comes out, they can fail you!

I currently send mine for its MOT with a moblie mechanic. He checks it over before taking it for its test. If the examiner finds anything that he missed, the mobile guy just fixes it and puts it through a re-test. I used to take it to the garage myself and they invariably found expensive stuff that 'needed' doing...

That was the case with Me too...I bought my last car from a dealer and had it serviced for Years with them..then I found an independent Guy closer to home, and strangely enough,he managed to get me through the test each time after that without the same parts bill...
