Yesterday my dinner was a salad because here was hot and I wanted something fresh to eat. I made a salad with potatoes, tomatoes, onion and canned sardines. What a wonderful salad. Do you usualy make a different salad? Do you like to improve your salads with different things?

I just made a macaroni salad with canned tuna, tomatoes, pepers, onions and celery. It will be something we will have for lunch and possibly dinner too as a side dish.I grew up eating stuff like that. It is a nice light picnic type meal. Today is a nice early fall feeling day though. It is great to get rid of the heat.

Thank you Teka, You are really of my interest and mood. I have just now started a discussion titled How do you feel When there is enough salad on the Dining Table. I too when I am away from home I do not eat from the market, I use to bring salad items and enjoy a good and enough salad with drink and it works for me. Tell me more about your eating habits. Have and enjoy nice day with salad.

I love salad, but I must admit that your combination above doesn't sound that appealing to me. I could never get past eating canned sardines by themselves and definitely would not try them combined with something else...ewwww... As for the potatoes were they cooked? I am trying to imagine potatoes, lettuce and sardines....

People have different preferences and tastes. If you don't like sardines it is OK but I like so it is OK too. And I don't used lettuce together. Thanks for your response.

If you want your salad to be a meal then you need to think about protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and other nutrients, fibre and fat or oil. It seems that your salad has a good balance of most of these. The sardines provide protein, oil (and especially Omega 3)and vitamin D as well as some others; the potatoes have carbohydrate and, if you leave the skins on, vitamin C; the tomatoes have vitamin C and some minerals and the onion (if it is raw) has sugars and vitamin C. Most of your ingredients have plenty of fibre. I would maybe add some green vegetables (lettuce, cabbage, rocket, spinach or something similar) and, because the sardines probably don't provide very much protein, either add some cooked dried beans or diced cheese or eat it with bread or rice.

Oh yes teka I sure do. Salad is one of my favs. I like to add tuna and bacon bits, nuts, and homemade crutons. I use mayo or miracle whip instaed of salad dressings. Or I'll put in some basted chicken or turkey that I have cooked. I also chuck in some peppers or onions sometimes. It all depends on what I want at the time.

That is definitely an unusual salad you had. I've never heard of putting sardines in a salad, and I don't think I know anyone who eat sardines. I had a salad for lunch, but it was kind of a tame salad compared to yours. : ) Besides lettuce, there were tomatoes, bits of bacon, sliced up pieces of egg (from a boiled egg), and croutons. I like trying different kinds of salads though. My favorite is a salad from Steak N Shake, but I have no idea how to make it myself.

Hmmm... salad! I almost like all kinds and would love experimenting and playing with the ingredients. I will try your canned sardine salad one day. I usually use canned tuna but not canned sardines. Well, different folks, different strokes as long as it satisfies our taste buds. Salad for dinner once or twice a week for me is fine.

I like a fresh bed of baby spinach with feta cheese, cucumbers, roma tomatoes, dried cranberries and a very light vinagrette. Add some croutons if you like a little extra crunch!
