Rhythmic gymnastics at the 2008 Olympics--did you watch them?

I only caught part of the rhythmic gymnasts' performances. But, wow, they were so awesome! They carried a baton with a really long ribbon (12 feet?) and then they wave it around while they are sort of dancing (like ballet) and it is just beautiful. I loved it. I wish I would have gotten to see all of their performances. They were quite fascinating.
Did you see them? What did you think of this sport?

I watched both the individual and team competition. I liked the sport too and think it gets neglected because of artistic gymnastics. If I ever actually get to see an Olympics live, and I'm seriously thinking of going to the one in London, I will try to buy tickets for this event. Hopefully, an American will be there. We didn't place high enough this time to qualify.

Hello cripfemme.
That's cool that you got to see so much of the rhythmic gymnastics. It does seem to be one of those sports that is so unusual, it doesn't really fit in with the other categories. It sort of looks like ballet to me. That would be wonderful if you got to see it in London in 2012, wouldn't it? Thanks for your input.

Jill,
Rhythmic gymnastics fascinate me. I mean, they look more like ballet than they do gymnastics. Yes, graceful is the word, the performers are just lovely. I've seen so much of the Olympics this year, but I missed most of these performances. Well, there's always London in 2012!
Thanks for responding and do take care.

Yes, I wish I could have seen more of it. I only saw the performance of the Spanish girl who had decided to retire after the Olympics. That's the one who kissed the floor after she was done. I love watching rhythmic gymnastics. They do the ribbon thing, but also ball, rings, and sticks. It's single and group. It's amazing. But somehow it was always on at the wrong time this year. I hope we'll have better luck next Olympics;)

Hi jonesy123.
I watched so much of the Olympics this year. But somehow, I managed to miss nearly all of the rhythmic gymnastics. It truly was amazing. Guess we'll have to remember to watch for this sport in London's 2012 Olympics!
Thanks for responding and do take care.

While I don't think rhythmic gymnastics is a sport and really don't think it should be in the olympics... I did watch some of it, and what the girls can do is pretty amazing, and really beautiful. It does tell a story, and I really like that. So yeah, it was pretty sweet! Still don't think it should be in the olympics though...

Hello TheHawkBat!
I must say that rhythmic gymnastics is quite unusual, isn't it? The gymnasts are lovely performers. It reminds me alot of ballet. It's so interesting to watch, too.
Thank you for responding to this discussion.
