I dont think it comes naturally to all and I think what there should be a class in is just that! How they shouldnt feel upset if its not coming as naturally as everyone says it should and a bit more support to those new parents who are struggling.

I think that parenting skills are something we do come by naturally with experience, but I think that some parents could improve their skills with parenting classes. The way we are raised often contributes to our parenting points of view, and may not always lead to the most effective parenting. For example, my daughter always hated conflict as a child, and even now tries to avoid conflict with her own children by negotiation. They run all over her, and it drives me nuts because they live here with us. On the other hand, if I tell them to do something, they do it because they know grandma don't mess around! Children want to know the parent is willing to set limits, and too many parents have permissive parenting styles that only lead to an inability to control their children. If you can't handle your two-year-old, you can forget about having any influence over them when they hit the teens!

I think for some it comes naturally, for others there should be parenting classes. There are a lot of people out there that do not know how to deal with the everyday situations of raising children. They don't know how to go about teaching their children certain manners, or they go over board in disciplining their children, in that they will use harsh punishment for little things that just need a 'no' or a 'time out'. So although there are not classes, I think there should be for some.
