How can people hurt their children?

It's so sad to even read the paper or watch the news any more. Just today there was an article about a mother who burned, starved and beat her 3 year old son, with the nanny! A neighbor over heard the childs screams and called 911. Thank goodness the child was saved. I mean what makes people do this to their children. How can mothers/fathers kill their children? Like Andrea Yates who drowned all of her children in a bath tub. People who abuse their children, and molest their children. Sweet innocent angels, and people can do things like this to them.
I was watching the Tyra Banks show the other day and these women are on there talking about how they think about hurting their children/babies on a daily bases. The one lady said she thinks about bashing the babies head off the floor when it cries. Another said she refuses to change the babies daiper until it stops crying. I mean where do these people come from. A lot of people blame it on depression...but when do we hold them responsible for their actions? Does anyone else feel this way? Anyone have any ideas how these people get like this? Please share your thoughts openly.

This discussion sends wiggles into my stomach.
For "why or how" people usually have excuses.
Postpartum depression, but these people don't have Down syndrome capable of thought knowing right from wrong. I hope the ladies on Tyra only have visitation rights. They obviously recognize a problem.
For people that kill their children; I hope they regret and use mentality to think about what they have done while spending their life or more in prison.
Alas, these people cannot look me in the face and tell me they love their children. All the individuals on the news have none in their stance or eyes, almost robot like. So they possibly have no regret.
In short I agree with you.

Like you, I wonder how in the world can anyone, especially a Mother, harm her child? These are the precious souls God has blessed them with and here they are abusing them, and sometimes killing them. It seems to me that there are more and more stories like yours in the news every day. The one that got my husband back in the 90's was the young woman who ran her car into the lake with her children fastened in the back seat and let those children die simply because she wanted to be with her lover that didn't want kids! She thought this would win him for her. People are SICK! They lose sight of reality. Sometimes I think they are just cruel people! Whatever the problem, they don't ever need any more children.
I believe that it had been determined that Andrea Yates did have a sickness that caused her to do that. But my problem with that was, 'WHY did her husband ever leave her with them? and WHY did he ever let her have that many children when they found out about her condition?' Sometimes, I think in that case, he should have been held!

I agree, I heard how andrea yates husband new she wasn't well. He should have been held responsible as well. I also saw the one with the mother driving her kids into the water. People just make me sick, that they knowingly would harm their children. Thanks for your response.

Yeah I am perplexed too why mothers are the ones that carry the deeds. But there is this mental condition that mothers suffers after giving birth for some mothers it sticks to their mind and they tend to make this horrible things to their child.

Hi. I just don't get it too how these mommy can hurt their children that worse. I sometimes spank my kids when they become intolerable, but that just that. As for those who were thinking of hurting their babies well there are certain conditions that makes you think you are hurting yourself, a sample is having an Obsessive compulsive disease, a person does not really want to hurt someone but an image of him hurting someone always pop in his head but he knew that is bad, but they say that these people who suffers from OCD is not likely to hurt anybody.
