I just spent two hours trying to clean up my old toaster oven!  email this discussion to a friend?

I bought a new Sensio Toaster Oven yesterday because my old one was starting to look ratty-looking. One of my sisters had said she might like to take the old one and try it out to see if she wants to buy one. So, I felt like I needed to clean it up for her. It's a Black and Decker Toaster Oven. Well, it was pretty bad and it took me 2 hours! I still didn't get the little baking pan that came with it very clean. Is there any type of cleaning agent that will get off baked on grease and grime? The SOS pads were working, but I ran out of them. Plus, my arm is killing me from all the scrubbing!

Have you tried oven cleaner? I know thats what you use to clean the oven, it gets baked on grease and grime, maybe that will work for your toaster oven..it might be worth a try....good luck

Hi walijo2008.
No, I did not try oven cleaner. I have a self-cleaning oven so I keep the oven cleaners anymore. But this is a very good suggestion as I do remember using the spray-on kind years ago. I could even put the pan on some newspaper in the garage and spray the oven cleaner on it out there, so it could do its thing. Thanks for this great suggestion.

Citra-solve is good with grease.

Baking soda and a little water to make a really thick, gritty paste works good.

Some dishwashing detergents work well.

Hope this works out for you.

I do the same kind of thing. We gave my brother and his girlfriend our old computer so they could see what a computer is like. At least if my brother gets a job, he needs to know how to use a mouse anyway. They've been playing games with it. It's not internet compatible, so running games and programs off discs is about all they can do. Take care

I've never heard of Citra-solve. I'll have to check it out. I thought about trying the baking soda and water. I might do that this morning. Dishwashing detergent that I have didn't really take any of the baked on grease off. The SOlS and Brillo pads work well, but I can only scrub that hard for so long!

That was very generous for you to give your old computer to your brother. Sounds like that is giving him an opportunity to get familiar with computers which is definitely important these days, if you're looking for work.

Thanks, writersedge, for your response.

Try Orange cleaner....anything with orange in it will soak away years of baked or cooked on food. When I helped my daughter in law clean their last apartment, we used it on their stove and it took off layers of the brown stuff that was there before they moved in!

Hey Jill.
I may actually have some of that spray orange cleaner way back underneath my sink. I finally gave up on the cleaning of the toaster oven after about 3 hours and told my sister I'd gotten it as clean as I could. But, I might just dig the orange stuff out. Thanks for telling me about it.
