When my sister was in the same high school it was French that they taught as the second language, but 10 years later when I got to high school they got rid of French and changed it to Spanish.

through your wonderful topic, friend, I could find a few more INDIANS, speaking the same mother tongue as me. I am an INDIAN.. as indicated, and my mother tongue is TELUGU. with about 56 different alphabets, it is considered one of the sweetest and toughest of SOUTH INDIAN LANGUAGES. And, can you understand .. we have 3 different alphabets for the three different sounds of S .. s, sh, and the s with a dot under it. lols.

My mother tongue language is chinese though i speak chinese most of the time.. lol =D In singapore, our main language is english, because in schools, everything is being taught in english except for chinese and other languages whereby we have a choice to choose if we wanted to.. hehe Like there are some chinese, opting to learn malay for their mother tongue languages or vice versa.. It's very flexible, but english has to be the main language ^_^

Tonytt2009, where are you from? You mean to say that in China, English was only learnt when you all are in high school? Ain't that a bit too old to start learning a 2nd language. Anyway, you had quite a good command of written English even though you started learning it only when you are 13 years old! Well, I was born, bred and raised in Singapore where everybody is billingual. From a tender age of 2 or 3, we enter into school and we had to learn two languages - English being our first language, and then one Mother Tongue (depending on your race). The Chinese in Singapore will learn Chinese, the Malays learn Malay, the Indians learn Tamil. I'm Chinese so my mother tongue is Chinese! And I hated it in my 17 years of studies. Thank goodness there is no need for the use of Chinese anymore ever since I had graduated from college. In college, I took up a further 2 more language as my 3rd and 4th language. And that is Japanese and French. Needless to say, I forgot both as soon as I graduated this year. We don't use this two languages over in Singapore at all, save for the fact that we use it in the lesson itself (1 hour per week?). It is of no wonder they are forgotten as soon as I graduate. So, that about wraps up the languages that I know and had learnt. Fluent in both English and Mandarin (Chinese), and very weak in Japanese and French! Hope that you enjoy my post! Lol.

Wow,it's quite happy to see your comment on my English~.Yes,People in China will always begin their 2nd language from junior high shcool(but nowadays,Chinese will start from childhood, say 6 years or so).Anyway,I'm struggling to keep my English after graduating from school. Now,I found mylot and have all of you my friends here, that's great~!~ As you mentioned, you're still good at Chinese? It'll be nice if meeting in S'pore with Chinese communication~`lol
